Meet the Artist Behind the Next Walls of Pride Mural!

The Cedar Springs Merchants Association's Walls of Pride Project is thrilled to welcome Annie Hong as the featured artist for our newest community mural.

Based in Los Angeles, Annie is a q***r, nonbinary Korean American visual artist and muralist whose vibrant public artworks are known for their radiant color palettes, flowing linework, whimsical forms, and powerful storytelling. Their work explores themes of identity, resilience, healing, and belonging while uplifting underrepresented voices and transforming public spaces into places of connection and reflection.

Over the past decade, Annie has created murals and installations for clients ranging from Adobe, DoorDash, the LA Rams, and Forever 21 to schools, nonprofits, and municipalities across the country. Equally important to their artistic practice is a longtime commitment to youth engagement, education, and community-building through the arts.

For Annie, public art is more than beautification. It is an opportunity to strengthen community, celebrate identity, and create spaces where people feel seen, connected, and inspired.

Join us for a special community meeting and artist introduction.

Artist Spotlight: Javier Sandoval

We are thrilled to spotlight the phenomenal Javier Sandoval , whose work will be on display at ’s upcoming MaricónX exhibition in San Antonio!

Javier’s art is a vibrant, essential exploration of pop culture, fashion, and everyday trends, deeply rooted in the Chicano culture he grew up in. Living between cultures as a first-generation Mexican American, his work beautifully navigates the tension, balance, and struggle of dual identity.

As a q***r Chicano artist, Javier focuses on visibility, resilience, and reclaiming space. By blending religious imagery, myth, street culture, and pop references, his portraits and symbolic images boldly challenge traditional ideas of masculinity, beauty, and belonging. His art centers Brown and q***r bodies as sacred, powerful, complex, and deeply worthy of attention.

In Javier's own words, his art is a way to process, to connect, and to keep going—creating an accessible space where people can truly see themselves. Come experience this brilliant fusion of the personal and the political in person!

Artist Spotlight: Alejandra Sanchez Alanis

is a q***r, translingual BIPOC artist whose work blends neon abstraction, poetry, and spirituality into immersive, sensory altars. Her piece Yes, Mother.. erupts from a black ground in neon green, electric pink, cobalt, gold, and white paint flung, splattered, and surrendered into a visual language that refuses to ask permission to take up space, honoring the feminine divine as Magia and Madonna while echoing El Pueblo Unido in every color, story, and body held together without erasing difference.

MariconX Artist Spotlight: Oscar Contreras

We are honored to feature the work of in MariconX: Unmanifest Destinies, presented by .
Oscar Contreras’ paintings inhabit the charged pause before touch—the space between desire and devotion, where suspended moments quietly transform us. Born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and now based in Dallas, Oscar draws on vivid storytelling, religious symbolism, and surreal imagery to explore intimacy, emotional thresholds, and the vulnerable gravity of silence.

Drawn to what lives beneath the surface, Oscar portrays desire and vulnerability with directness and dignity. His images pull us inward and hold us there.

His work carries a conscious lineage, echoing the unflinching honesty of writers such as James Baldwin and Oscar Wilde, alongside the tender, spiritual figuration of Mexican painters such as Saturnino Herrán. For Oscar, beauty is never merely decorative—it is always an argument.

Maribel Rubio's profound artistic practice explores identity, culture, memory, and resilience through deeply personal and historically grounded work.
