NPM Dallas The National Association of Pastoral Musicians Dallas Chapter

NPM Dallas The National Association of Pastoral Musicians Dallas Chapter The Dallas & Ft. Worth, TX Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians fosters the fellowship and art of liturgical musicians.

The basic purpose of the NPM chapter is to:
1. Deepen the spiritual life of each pastoral musician.
2. Encourage social interaction among pastoral musicians.
3. Provide an educational forum on current issues affecting musical practice in the parish, for the musicians and the clergy.
4. Improve the skills of every pastoral musician: musical, liturgical, pastoral, and leadership. Benefits of members

hip in NPM:
1. Where NPM membership and parish leadership are strong, the variety and quality of musical selection for parish singing has improved, and the liturgical use of music in all phases of parish life has also improved.
2. Parish clergy, whose membership in NPM has provided them a ready tool for self-improvement, have shown support in greater numbers for parish musicians, and have themselves become more aware of the richness of worship in musical liturgy.
3. Parish musicians, whose membership in NPM is vital to them and to their work, have developed greater confidence about participation in liturgical planning. Musicians an clergy, in some cases, are communicating better among themselves and between parishes about their musical programs.
4. Diocesan offices of music may find in NPM a national forum for the exchange of ideas and needs, focused particularly on music in the liturgy.
5. Nationally, NPM conventions have been a musical, liturgical and spiritual highlight for both clergy and musicians, offering them a wide range of workshops, seminars and musical demonstrations of practical and exciting value. Internationally, NPM is working closely with the International Commission on English in the Liturgy. NPM's founding president is the correspondent for the improvement for the English Speaking section of Universa Laus, an international study group for the improvement of music in liturgy. NPM's founding president is also an advisor to the Bishop's Committee on the Liturgy of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

To all the mothers and those that give us motherly wisdom along the way.

To all the mothers and those that give us motherly wisdom along the way.

God of tenderness and love, on this Mother’s Day we give you thanks for the gift of mothers and all who nurture life with compassion, sacrifice, wisdom, and care.
Bless mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, foster mothers, adoptive mothers, and all women who reflect your loving presence in the lives of others.

Strengthen those who are raising children today.
Grant them patience in difficult moments, joy in daily blessings, and strength in their work.

We remember with tenderness those whose mothers have died.
Comfort all who carry grief today, especially when memories bring both gratitude and longing. May those who have gone before us rest in your eternal peace, and may their love continue to guide the hearts of their children.

We also pray for those who deeply desire to become mothers but face the pain and uncertainty of infertility, miscarriage, or unfulfilled hopes.
Hold them gently in their sorrow.
Surround them with compassion, faithful support, and renewed hope.

Be near as well to those for whom this day is complicated: those estranged from family, those who have lost children, those who carry wounds connected to motherhood, and those who quietly grieve in ways unseen by others.

May your healing, peace, and abiding love rest upon all women today, as always. Amen.

Alleluia.

After silence, it returns.
After darkness, light breaks forth.

Today, we sing as a Resurrection people—

Christ is risen. And that changes everything.

The Church waits.

In darkness.
In stillness.
In hope.

Before the fire is lit, before the Exsultet is sung—
there is this sacred pause.

God is already at work

No Gloria. No Alleluia.Only the weight of the Cross.Even in silence, we minister.Even in stillness, God speaks.

No Gloria.
No Alleluia.
Only the weight of the Cross.

Even in silence, we minister.

Even in stillness, God speaks.

Tonight, we don’t just sing about the Eucharist—we stand at its very source.

Today we enter the tension of Holy Week. We begin with palms raised high…and end with the shadow of the Cross. As ministers of music, we carry both - joy and sorrow - in a single liturgy. Let us sing not just with our voices, but with our hearts ready to walk the full journey. “Hosanna in the highest.”

In thanks for all you do in your musical ministry.

A Special Message on the Memorial of St. Cecilia

Dear fellow NPM members,

As we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Cecilia, we extend heartfelt gratitude for your ministry. It’s always a moment of renewal for those who serve the Church through music—a reminder of our vocation, our mission, and our shared song.

Tradition tells us that Saint Cecilia “sang in her heart to the Lord” even amid the music of her wedding celebration. Her example invites us to ask: How do we sing to the Lord in our hearts? As pastoral musicians, we are called not only to create beautiful sound but to form assemblies who pray, hope, lament, and give thanks through song. It gives us a chance to pause and examine our ministry:

🎵Does our music help the faithful fully and actively participate in the liturgy?
🎵Do we help worshippers find their own voice of prayer?
🎵Does our sung prayer arise from gratitude, humility, and love for God’s people?

Saint Augustine, in a reading traditionally prayed on this feast, exhorts us to “sing a new song not with our lips but with our lives.” Our music-making is not an embellishment to the liturgy—it is an essential expression of the Gospel. Every note we sing, every chord we play, allows Christ’s message to sound forth to a world in need.

Music in the liturgy does more than accompany ritual. It changes hearts. It shapes disciples. It sends forth the assembly as witnesses. And you are at the forefront of that work to support the Church today.

As we honor Saint Cecilia, our prayer is that God will bless your ministry abundantly. May the new song you sing—through both your music and your life—continue to deepen your service and strengthen the People of God.

Saint Cecilia, patroness of musicians, pray for us!
