Warrior Dog Foundation is dedicated to serving the special operations community, families, and Special Operation Forces (SOF) working K-9 military dogs.

The Warrior Dog Foundation helps retired Military, Contract, and Law Enforcement K9s by providing mental and physical rehabilitation, as well as rehoming options for dogs that might otherwise be euthanized. The Warrior Dog Foundation was established by Mike Ritland who fought as a Navy SEAL in Operation Iraqi Freedom and other deployments He created Warrior Dog Foundation with the sole purpose of giving back to the Navy SEAL and special operations community. The K-9s employed with these forces are of the top tier in the working-dog world. They are expected to work in the most austere of environments and face conditions that most human beings cannot survive. These are the environments in which these elite warriors operate. The K-9 units are vital in ensuring the success of every mission and operate in all conditions. Warrior Dog Foundation helps to transition dogs from an operational environment into our state-of-the-art kennel facility. We strive to educate the public on the importance of K-9s in the combat environment, and showcase the level of sacrifice these dogs give in support of our troops. We care for each individual SOF K-9 with dignity and grace, including both mental and physical rehabilitation for the rest of their lives.

Behind every Warrior Dog is a dedicated team of people who refuse to give up on them.

Our Care Team, led by Director Nikki Mitchell, has poured countless hours of love, patience, training, and rehabilitation into retired military working dog Dex. And now, we believe he’s ready for his next chapter — a forever home. ❤️

Dex loves people, but his ideal home has some specific requirements: a single-family home where he can be the only dog.

At Warrior Dog Foundation, we work tirelessly to rehabilitate these incredible dogs, but we also recognize that the right environment is essential to their long-term success.

Dex has served. He’s worked hard. Now it’s his turn to be someone’s family. 🐕🇺🇸

But behind moments like this is an incredible amount of daily care.

With 30+ resident Warrior Dogs depending on us, it takes a dedicated team every single day to provide rehabilitation, training, exercise, feeding, cleaning, enrichment and, most importantly the individual attention each dog deserves.

That’s where your donation dollars go: directly into giving these warriors the care, dignity and quality of life they earned.

Every meal. Every walk. Every clean kennel. Every training session. Every peaceful afternoon in the sun.

Warrior Dog Foundation will be at the Grand Junction Air Show, October 3–4, and we’d love for anyone attending to stop by and say hello.

Come meet the team, learn more about the retired working dogs we support, and hear how your donations help provide care, rehabilitation, food, and a safe place for these dogs after their years of service.

Others grow old after a lifetime of service.

For our senior Warrior Dogs, every slower step, every long nap, and every quiet moment carries a story. They gave their best years working beside their handlers, protecting others, and doing jobs most people will never fully understand.

Now their mission is different.

To rest. To feel safe. To be loved. To enjoy the years they’ve earned.

At Warrior Dog Foundation, caring for these senior dogs isn’t just about giving them more time, it’s about making sure that time is filled with dignity, comfort, and peace.

They served when they were needed. Now it’s our turn to serve them. ❤️🐾
