Warrior Dog Foundation is dedicated to serving the special operations community, families, and Special Operation Forces (SOF) working K-9 military dogs.

The Warrior Dog Foundation helps retired Military, Contract, and Law Enforcement K9s by providing mental and physical rehabilitation, as well as rehoming options for dogs that might otherwise be euthanized. The Warrior Dog Foundation was established by Mike Ritland who fought as a Navy SEAL in Operation Iraqi Freedom and other deployments He created Warrior Dog Foundation with the sole purpose of

giving back to the Navy SEAL and special operations community. The K-9s employed with these forces are of the top tier in the working-dog world. They are expected to work in the most austere of environments and face conditions that most human beings cannot survive. These are the environments in which these elite warriors operate. The K-9 units are vital in ensuring the success of every mission and operate in all conditions. Warrior Dog Foundation helps to transition dogs from an operational environment into our state-of-the-art kennel facility. We strive to educate the public on the importance of K-9s in the combat environment, and showcase the level of sacrifice these dogs give in support of our troops. We care for each individual SOF K-9 with dignity and grace, including both mental and physical rehabilitation for the rest of their lives.

For some retired military and law-enforcement K9s, retirement isn’t as simple as going home.

Years of specialized training and operational experience can leave some dogs with behavioral and physical needs that make a traditional home impossible.

That’s why Warrior Dog Foundation exists, to provide the specialized rehabilitation, care, and in some cases lifelong sanctuary these K9s need after their service ends.

Their mission may be over. Our responsibility to them isn’t.

K9 Ferro’s rehabilitation is about more than what you can see on the outside. It’s about helping heal what you can’t see on the inside.

At Warrior Dog Foundation, we do things differently. These dogs served at the highest levels, and when they come to us, some carry behavioral and emotional wounds that require time, structure, patience, and experienced care.

Our mission isn’t simply to rescue them. It’s to rehabilitate the whole dog, working through fear, anxiety, aggression, and the lasting effects of their service so they can rediscover stability, confidence, and quality of life.

Ferro’s journey is still being written, one day and one breakthrough at a time.

Most people think a rescue dog has to look broken.

They expect malnourishment. Visible injuries. Overall poor health.

But some of the deepest injuries are the ones you can’t see.

Murphy is a retired Dutch Shepherd. Years of serving beside law enforcement left him carrying the weight of constant stress. Eventually, it became too much, and he was retired long before anyone expected.

When Murphy arrived, the battle wasn’t physical, it was emotional. Trust had been replaced with anxiety. Everyday life had become overwhelming.That’s why our mission matters. Not every dog that needs saving has visible scars. Some are fighting battles you’ll never see.
