We would like to thank everyone who helped spread the word about today's event and another thank you to those who attended the community visioning session.

To recap, the Molina architecture students have learned from several professionals in the urban planning and architecture field this semester. In September, James Rojas, a respected Urban Planner, provided students a lecture on Latino Urbanism and facilitated a hands-on exercise about planning and design. This was the same technique the students used today to learn about the community's vision for the Chalk Hill Trail.

Overall, it was a successful event that provided students with the opportunity to practice what they learn in the classroom. The students worked hard to create a meeting that was inclusive and welcoming i.e., translated all materials in Spanish.

We are very proud of our young community leaders!

🎉We would like to thank Isabel Castilla, ASLA, from James Corner Field Operations for speaking to our Molina high school students today. A native of Puerto Rico, Isabel has worked on high profile projects such as Dallas' West End Square, New York's High Line, and the Underline in Miami. Isabel's perspective and experience was invaluable to our students as they navigate their own semester long projects. Her story was as inspiring as it was informational. Isabel discussed her approach to designing impactful public spaces incorporating: community input, technology, flora fauna, and historical character. Thank you Isabel!

Two weeks ago, we kicked off the Chalk Hill Trail design project at Molina High School. We partnered with architecture faculty at Molina to provide students with a unique opportunity to design a trail in their community. The alumni association brought in two sets of guest speakers over the last week to engage students on using their identities, culture, and lived experiences to influence the spaces in their communities. We want to thank James Rojas, a respected Urban Planner, for giving our students a lecture on Latino Urbanism and for facilitating a hands-on exercise about planning and design.
