We have taken time to reflect and made multiple efforts to resolve this matter privately. At this point, the Miss Gay Texas State Pageant System (MGTSPS) believes it is important to respond publicly to a post made last week.
We sincerely apologize for the conversation that took place and for the confusion and concern it caused. It was never our intention to suggest that anyone was required to resign or relinquish a crown or title.
We respect the feelings and perspective of the individual involved. At the same time, we cannot support or accept statements that we believe misrepresent our organization. We remain committed to addressing concerns in a respectful and constructive manner.
In 2008, co-founders Michael Champion (Sable Alexander) and Bill Lindsey (Linze Serell) established the MGTSPS. The Miss Gay Texas State Pageant System's purpose is to develop and maintain a high quality and professional pageant system and be recognized as the "Symbol of Excellence" within the community that the pageant system serves. The system also supports men who take the art of female impersonation to a higher level. Annually the system will donate funds to the community when available. (Our mission statement)
We want to be clear, the MGTSPS does not support discrimination of any kind. We strongly reject claims that our organization is transphobic. Throughout our history, we have proudly supported 34 titleholders who have gone on to achieve meaningful success, and we remain dedicated to continued growth, innovation, and community impact.
In 2019, MGTSPS introduced the Elite Division as part of our continued efforts to expand fundraising opportunities. In 2021, we suffered a tremendous loss when COVID-19 claimed the life of co-founder Michael Champion. During that difficult time, the future of the organization was uncertain. However, we remained steadfast in our commitment to preserving and continuing the legacy that Michael Champion and Bill Lindsey built.
Our current rules state that all contestants must be biologically male and not have breast implants, hormone-enhanced breasts, cosmetic or body-enhancing implants below the neck. While these guidelines were part of the original structure of the system, we also recognize the importance of evolving with our community.
With that in mind, we’re pleased to share that this past year our board has unanimously approved a proposal to introduce an additional division of competition inclusive of all gender identities, including men, women, and transgender women. We look forward to implementing this expansion in the coming months, MGTSPS will both honor its original legacy and embrace a new one. One that reflects growth, inclusion and continued service to our community
