My name is Aubre’, I am 42, wife, mother of four children ranging in age from 21 to the youngest at age 2. When I was pregnant, I worked at the TOPS Bakery as a Cake Decorator, it was there I learned the art of painting the ‘perfect image’ and as I developed my ability to decorate, the cake requests became ‘a thing’ around town. When I left TOPS to have my first baby, I would take up colored pencils, chalk, crayons and painted on any surface; walls, clothing, and pizza boxes. I graduated to painting oil, on canvas, and began to create my friends what I imagined the perfect gift, paintings of Jerry Garcia, or Marilyn Monroe, of Celestial Moons and Stars. When I started work in a large office, I would often haul in paintings to give to bosses, friends, and co-workers too; I love art, it’s a language spoken when words are not enough.
Life, motherhood, and a lost marriage, a new marriage, moving, an end in a 23-year career in debt collections, and three more children would stop my artwork to a point where I hadn’t painted in years. A visit with a friend who was fighting cancer would become a request for five small paintings made for her five family Christmas Day. She bought the canvas, and the paint; I made her five paintings, each of a tree with their names carved in the bark. I had one canvas left; it would sit for nearly two months before this project would begin.
On March 5, 2019 a phone call from my best friend would change the trajectory of my life; a phone call telling me her father was diagnosed with cancer; a phone call where we both gasped for air between shuddering weeping; it’s her father. When the call ended, I picked up that final blank canvas and painted her an elephant; loyal, strong, emotionally calm, all the things she needed to be for him, that I would be for her. When she picked her painting that night, she smiled at her painting, we crushed each other with a hug; the Warpaint project was born on that smile.
That night, and very much the fiber of what this project is, I created a post about Melanie, her father, and her painting. I asked for prayers and support for her, showed the elephant; it went a bit viral with 100’s of likes and comments; it was AWESOME. The painting attracted a boy on his mom’s phone, Cody, Autistic, loves Elephants. His mom, Vicky, messaged me askig to purchase the painting; I explained it was a gift but could make Cody his own; there was no money on either side of the conversation. I left it as ‘when you’re ready, let me know’.
Then, God Descended.
I emerged from the shower (my brainstorming place) with an idea; I rushed to Joe, clothes sticking to me not yet dry enough to wear, ‘what if I painted Cody an elephant, for free, and shipped it to him, for free, and shared his story about Autism? “Do It” was Joseph’s response. I was due a bonus check, I could offer this to a few others, too. I posted “How many of my friends have a Warrior of Cancer, Autism, or any diagnosis, who would like a Free Painting? I will even ship it to you, at no cost? I’ll shae your story, design your painting with you, and it won’t cost you a dime? Go.. (12 answered within an hour)
Next came the page, the website, the need for donations, more and more Warriors emerged; Today, 03/02/2020 there are 215 Warriors Nominated and 171 shipped and received, all in a year; this is proof that when you put yourself out there as a Warrior for God, he will use you in a powerful way; he will give you everything you need; and will resolve any problems that surface. The power of faith, the power of supporting others who need it, and the power of generosity as it brings us all together in one gift for one person; is awesome.
In November of 2019, I asked my husband to help me with a painting; he is not (was not) an artist. Acrylic Pouring, a technique of silicone, mediums, cups, and scuplting paint, was beyond me. He not only learned this technique of painting to a master level in less than two months, but is now the only other artsist I work with. Not only do we paint together, but we try to incorporate both our styles in ‘collaboration paintings’ as one gift from both of us; it’s truly a family event.
Please like the page, please visit online, please donate, please share, please nominate, please join us as we share our Warriors with the world, rallying for their support, gifting them with a gift that gets bigger and bigger; you can even become a gift in every gift box! We want this tribute to become a gift every Warrior needs and a gift that everyone wants to be a part of. When you donate, your name is placed on the back of every painting, more than 121 names listed there today. No matter the amount, we show our Warriors they will #neverfightalone #neverplanalone #neverfundraisealone #nevergrievealone and that #warriorsneverdie
Please share this with everyone you know and thank you so much for your help!
Love always,
Aubre, Joseph, Bailey, Hunter, Liam, Silas & Leila and Ginger
