Trips are planned as often as possible, weather permitting. Members hunt for rocks, mineral specimens, gems, and fossils. Geological formations are also examined. Trips usually take place within Texas and adjoining states. The Lapidary Workshop:
The shop is subject to last-minute closure due to severe weather or other extenuating circumstances. An email will be sent to members if a closure occurs. (If ever you get to the shop and it is closed when it should be open, there is contact info posted on the physical mailbox next to the shop's front door.) SHOP HOURS:

After satisfactory completion of the Qualifying Class, members may use any of the equipment in the shop at a minimal fee. Classes are taught at the shop on various techniques such as gem cutting (cabochons), silversmithing, wire wrapping, bead stringing, chain making, opal cutting, broom-straw casting, and many more as requested. Monthly/Weekly Newsletter:
As a member, you will receive a monthly newsletter named “RokTok” along with a weekly update. The newsletter helps to keep members informed on news and events going on in the Club, such as classes, special events, member news, lapidary tips, and gem and mineral collecting information. Rock Swaps:
In months when the weather allows, on the last Saturday of the month (exceptions apply for Summer and Winter Months. Check the events page). Rockhounds (Members and Non-Members alike) can swap/sell/purchase specimens, lapidary material, and equipment from other Rockhounds. Anyone can come a set up a table. Times are usually 10am-3pm. Check the event on this page for exact dates and times. Annual Dallas Gem and Mineral Show:
In November each year, the Club has an annual gem and mineral show. The show features dealers selling lapidary materials, rock hounding information, gems, jewelry, fossils, minerals, rough materials for cabochons and faceted gems. The show also has a fluorescent booth, Kids Corner with a Wheel of Fortune, Kids’ Mine and more. There are educational displays and a silent auction. Come join the fun! Scholarship Fund:
The Club has established an endowment scholarship fund at The University of Texas at Dallas. This fund supports students in the geosciences programs. Visitors are invited to visit the meetings to learn more about the Club. Membership is achieved by visiting a meeting, submitting a membership application, and pay the fee. We vote in New Members each meeting. Annual Membership Fees:
