Dogs Matter

Dogs Matter Temporary dog foster care & supportive services for addicts and alcoholics seeking treatment. Dogs Matter offers a different choice.

Alcoholics and addicts seeking in-patient treatment facilities have had limited options regarding the care of their pets. In many cases either they place them in an unhealthy environment or surrender them to a shelter. We are the only nonprofit agency to provide temporary foster care placement and supportive services specifically for dogs of addicts and alcoholics in recovery. We take care of your best friend while you take care of yourself.

Milestone Monday 🎉

Today, we celebrate Randi Hampton and her incredible ONE YEAR SOBER milestone!

During her year at Taylor Recovery Center, Randi’s life underwent a remarkable transformation. She secured a job, acquired a car, and achieved stability, all while being supported by her loyal companion, Hank.

Soon, she’ll be back in Dallas to reunite with her daughter; a beautiful next chapter made possible through dedication and recovery.

We are so proud of you, Randi. Your hard work and resilience inspire us all. 🐾✨

This week, we celebrate a meaningful milestone: Jakob’s one year in recovery.

Jakob’s journey is a story about finding his voice.

Choosing healing meant making difficult decisions; advocating for himself while making sure his two high-energy dogs received the care they needed alongside his own recovery.

Rocco entered foster care and the BARK Dorm program, where he could decompress and receive behavioral support. At the same time, Simba stayed by Jakob’s side, becoming an essential part of his treatment and emotional stability.

As Jakob rebuilt his life, Simba accompanied him to Real Deal, a pet-friendly sober living community that understands recovery does not happen in isolation. Having his dog with him wasn’t just a comfort. It was part of the healing process.

With the support of his recovery coach, Trish, Jakob worked tirelessly to heal, grow, and reclaim his future. Today, we celebrate his resilience and the bond he protected at every step.

We are honored to recognize Jakob at this year’s Tails of Triumph. Every ticket helps make stories like this possible.

Purchase a ticket for yourself or donate one to someone in recovery to share a night of celebration, community, and hope. ✨ https://lnkd.in/eyY_H8aA

We have been on outreach in Skid Row and have seen firsthand that what he is saying is absolutely true. For so many people living there, their pets are not just companions. They are family, comfort, protection, purpose, and often the only source of unconditional love they have left. In return, these animals are deeply loved and cared for despite unimaginable circumstances.
Too often people judge without understanding the bond that exists between humans and their pets on the streets. We have witnessed the healing, hope, and dignity these relationships provide every single day.
We stand by Dr. Kwane, the truth he speaks, and the work being done to support both people and their animals with compassion instead of judgment. Dogs Matter will continue fighting to help those on Skid Row and to protect the powerful bond between people and their pets.

Meet Lucy 🩵

This sweet girl is searching for her forever home and until that day comes, she needs a loving foster to keep her out of boarding and surrounded by comfort, care, and companionship.

A home, even temporary, makes all the difference.

Many students had never considered what happens to a pet when someone enters treatment. That changed last week at Lakehill Preparatory School.

When Stephen Knight shared the story behind Dogs Matter, conversations quickly turned into thoughtful questions about compassion and how young people can help make a difference.

By the weekend, students weren’t just learning about the mission; they were meeting fosters, clients, and adoptable pets firsthand at the Dallas Pets Alive Adoption Container.

Awareness became action. Curiosity became empathy.
And that’s where real change begins.

Thank you, Lakehill Prep, for investing in service, compassion, and second chances.

We’re so excited to share Mack and Ellie both found their forever home this weekend! 🐾❤️

Moments like this remind us why this work matters. From uncertainty to stability, these pups now have the love, safety, and fresh start they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who fosters, adopts, donates, and supports Dogs Matter. Every success story is possible because of this community. ✨

🐾 Today is National Animal Advocacy Day -
and this is what advocacy looks like.

Meet Sadie. 💕

When Sadie’s mom made the brave decision to enter treatment, they were separated so healing could begin. One of her biggest worries wasn’t herself, it was her dog.

While Mom worked hard in recovery, Sadie was safe and loved through the Dogs Matter community, waiting for reunion day.

And now they’re back together.

You can see the happiness on Sadie’s face being reunited with her mom and starting this new chapter side by side.

After treatment, Mom secured housing that would welcome them both but Sadie needed updated vaccines and care before they could move in.

Because of your support, Dogs Matter provided:
🐾 Food support
🐾 Vaccines
🐾 Heartworm testing & prevention

Removing the final barrier so they could settle into a safe home and continue healing together.

A huge thank you to Shawna, their Recovery Coach, for supporting them every step of the way. Sadie and her mom are now part of our Aftercare Program.

Total sponsorship provided: $500

This is animal advocacy.

Support clients and their pets on their journey. Your gift provides essential care: medical needs, foster supplies, safe housing, and a recovery coach to guide them forward. Every contribution helps keep pets and their humans together so recovery can truly begin.

We’re excited to visit Lakehill Preparatory School this Friday! 🤍 🐾

Stephen Knight will be sharing how one dog helped inspire a mission that now keeps people and their pets together during recovery. Students will hear the story, ask questions, and meet Jayde, the emotional support dog who helped start it all.

The learning continues this weekend when students take a field trip to the Dallas Pets Alive Adoption Container to meet fosters, clients, and some incredible adoptable pets.

We love seeing young people connect compassion with action. 💛
