It’s that time of year again for our member-only contests! This year there are three contest categories you can participate in! 🌵🌼

**Photo Contest**
The photo contest is divided into 12 categories corresponding to the Level III ecoregions in Texas. Members may enter one photo in each of the ecoregions. Photos can have been taken at any time of the year, but must have been taken within the ecoregion depicting native plants or habitat. 📸🌱

**Video Contest**
The video contest allows members to showcase a variety of topics such as general native plant information, water conservation, land stewardship, interviews or even about the society itself! Entries must be short – 5 minutes maximum. 🎥⏯️

**Chapter Newsletters**
Does your chapter have a great newsletter? Then submit the best issue of your newsletter from the past twelve months, regardless of the frequency of issue. To be eligible newsletters must be downloadable or viewable online so provide the URL or link that goes to your favorite issue. 📰🌼

📍How to Enter❓

To enter you must be a current member of the Society, and submit your entry by August 31. Rules, instructions and entry forms for all contests are available through the Member Portal. Select “Annual Contests” in the left-hand menu after logging in.

The Native Plant Society of Texas Trinity Forks Chapter grant applications are now OPEN until August 27.

The goals of the NPSOT-TFC Grant Program are to:
• Educate members and the public about the importance of native plants,
• Encourage projects that build or restore native habitats to support and increase diverse and numerous flora and fauna populations,
• Promote the research, conservation and utilization of Texas native plants and plant habitats through education, outreach and example.

Our next meeting is, Thursday, July 23, in-person and via Zoom. Kim and David Wootton, will be presenting “Tips for Success, Working with Cities and HOAs to Install Pollinator Gardens.”

So, you want a pollinator garden in your community?  How do you pay for it, how do you get it approved?  How do you make sure it is maintained?  In 2025, Kim and David successfully navigated all of these questions to install two pollinator gardens in their community and want to share their tips for success with you!

Our next meeting is, Thursday, June 25, in-person and via Zoom. Chris Chastain, City of Lewisville’s Environmental Preserve and Greenbelt Manager, will be presenting “Transformation of Lewisville Spaces to Thriving Habitats.”

Join us as we explore how cities can use New Urbanism tactics and environmental conservation and restoration to tackle today’s challenges! The Lewisville Staff at Lewisville Parks & Recreation has taken an important step towards preserving and protecting the local ecosystem by establishing pollinator prairies and no-mow zones. These prairies are designed to provide habitats for various pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, and birds, who play a crucial role in pollinating flowers and crops. The initiative involved transforming unused spaces in the city, such as road medians and undeveloped parkland, into thriving habitats for pollinators with the help of native plants and wildflowers.

Did you know many Texas native plants are not only beautiful, but edible? During this presentation, learn more about which plants you cannot only plant, but also eat! Discover the rich history these native plants have supported in early human development. Additionally, be able to identify and explore the benefits these native plants have to you! Don’t only fall in love with these plants beauty, explore their functional benefits for your next foraging adventure or experiment with a unique southern dish! 🤠

Trinity Forks is well-represented on the DCMGA Garden Tour in Carrollton today! We have booths at TWO locations - the Josey Ranch Pollinator Prairie at 1700 Keller Springs Road and one private garden. Tickets are available at dcmga.com. It's going to be a beautiful day!
