Dear Malawians and Friends of Malawi,

At least 200 people have been confirmed dead with several others missing after Cyclone Freddy, the longest-lasting storm on record, ripped through Southern Malawi. It is causing flash floods and mudslides that swept homes - in some cases, entire villages - leaving thousands with no shelter, food, or sanitation. Freddy also caused severe damage to infrastructure such as roads and bridges, further impacting relief efforts. Several essential buildings such as hospitals and clinics have been flooded with water. The spreading of floodwaters is also poised to exacerbate an ongoing cholera outbreak that has already killed more than 1,600 people in the past year. There is an urgent need for assistance in the affected areas. We are asking for you to help by making a tax-deductible donation to assist the flood survivors via GO-Fund Me: https://gofund.me/f780e7ee

A coalition of Malawian organizations based in North America (USA and Canada) in collaboration with The Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in the US have come together to raise funds to help victims and survivors of the devastating flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy. The coalition is led by the Malawi Diaspora Network which comprises the Malawians in Diaspora Association of Canada (MiDAC), Malawians In Texas Organization (MITO 501c3), Malawi Association in Washington (MAWA 501c3), Malawi Washington Foundation (MWF), New England Malawi Association (NEMA 501c3), Malawi Seattle Association (MSA, 501c3), Association of Malawians in Houston, Malawi Dallas Ft Worth Association(MADFA), BETAMW, NAMFRE and US Malawians-Relief Funds.

We are calling on Malawians, descendants of Malawi, and friends of Malawi to support our efforts to help victims back home in various ways.

You can assist right now, by making a tax-deductible donation in any amount to this effort. Your contribution will help people receive food, blankets, tents, and other needs. It will help these communities to rebuild.

Thank you for your assistance,
Malawi Diaspora Network Team
