Hi,

I want to thank everyone that was able to make it to the membership meeting in Houston. I did give a base report so for those of you that missed it I’ll include it here. I know this is a lot of information. I’m planning on creating videos for my updates soon so they are easier to follow.

It feels like our airport has been under construction forever, but the end is finally in sight, and it’s actually ahead of schedule. Right now, everything is projected to be completed by November of this year.

For those of you who go through baggage claim to get to the parking garage, you’ve probably noticed some changes. Parts of that area are walled off while they work on a new baggage system and add more carousel space. It’s all part of the bigger plan to improve how bags move through the airport.

This project also includes adding seven new gates, gates 6 to 12.

You may have also seen the canopy going up that will connect the terminal to the parking garages. It’s starting to take shape, but still very much a work in progress. Once it’s done, it’ll be an illuminated covered walkway between the terminal and the garages.
For now, just expect to keep seeing construction and some blocked-off areas, especially in baggage claim and the rooftop parking lot, while they finish everything up.

𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about parking lately, especially with people assuming that the move to Austin would open up more spots here in Houston. But there is no waiting list for covered parking, and the number of covered spots hasn’t really changed.
Most of our Austin commuters selected their paid parking at their home airport, not in Houston, so it didn’t create any additional availability here.

For some background, before the current setup, most reasonable parking near the airport was through third-party lots. If you parked in the airport garages, it was usually around $14–$15 a day. Eventually, the City offered monthly parking on the rooftop of the Red Garage for pilots, flight attendants, and managers, $75 for uncovered and $100 for covered. I hope I’m remembering those numbers well.

When Southwest later began covering parking costs, Houston kept that same structure. Those who already had covered parking were grandfathered in, and everyone else remained in uncovered spots. Neither group pays out of pocket now, but the structure itself didn’t change.

As new transfers come in, they’ve been placed into uncovered parking. Because Houston is a senior base with low attrition, covered spots rarely open up, and realistically, that’s not expected to change anytime soon. The only real way more covered parking becomes available is if the City adds more spaces.

I know some people ask about making all parking equal across the board, but that would require agreement across all three workgroups, and that’s a much bigger lift.

One more thing I want to flag based on a recent update from the base, parking enforcement has been active. If you park in the wrong area (for example, the wrong floor), your parking tag can be locked until a fee is paid.

If you ever have an issue with the gate and need to pull a ticket, call the base first before parking somewhere else. It’s much easier for them to fix it in the moment than to try to refund it later.

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

I understand there’s been some concern that Houston can feel a bit more challenging than other bases. The goal, of course, is that someone taking RT in HOU has the same experience as someone taking it at any other base. From my conversations with management and SWA U leaders, things do appear to be more consistent now.

While there are some new commands and added procedures this year, I haven’t really seen those be the issue. Most of the challenges I’ve seen have come down to not assessing outside conditions or incorrect hand placement.

There is a workshop on April 20th if you’d like some hands-on practice before your class. I’ve also put together some resources you can review and I’m happy to send those over if you’d like.

I also want to remind you that you have the right to request union representation if you’re asked to return on a different day to reattempt a proficiency. Feel free to give me a call and we can go over what happened and make sure you feel ready going into it. And I’ll be there on that day to provide support.

Here are the top discipline trends from the past month:

Class 2.10 and 2.13 – Unprofessional Behavior
Class 2.5 – Failure to Follow Established Inflight Onboard Sales Procedures
Class 1.2 – Dishonesty

A few weeks ago, our Education Committee sent an email focused on Class 1.17. While this was not a trending discipline case in Houston during this period, the Fast Fact Friday document will explain what each class means. It reviews the class violations, the schedule of discipline, and where to find that information.

Our focus is ensuring that these work rules are not in violation of our contract and are applied correctly and if the discipline is unjust, that it be challenged through the appropriate channels.

The shutdown is still ongoing, and I just want to say thank you to everyone for being patient and understanding with the TSA agents at HOU. They’re showing up every day and doing their jobs under a lot of stress, and it really does make a difference when we treat them with kindness.

Last year, we really came together for them. There were hundreds of donations, dry goods, pantry items, and HEB even stepped in with turkeys. The Houston Food Bank also provided fresh produce like fruits and vegetables. It was honestly really nice to see.

And they’re still being supported now. The Houston Food Bank has been providing meals to the TSA officers while on duty. Another non-profit, Wings of Compassion, has been helping with things like fuel assistance.

Thanks again for everything you all do out there. If you have any questions or need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Good Morning,

Today will likely be another challenging day. Crew Scheduling is currently holding at about 60 minutes, and significant issues are being caused by Florida ATC along with the many reroutes from yesterday.

If you have questions about pay, we won’t be able to confirm whether you were paid correctly until your pairing shows “audit complete.” Once it does, feel free to reach out and we can review it with you. If we find that something was overlooked, we will contact Payroll on your behalf to have it corrected.

If you have questions about your options today, I’ll be available throughout the day and can take a look. If I’m not answering right away, I’m likely assisting another Flight Attendant. You can also reach the union office at 214-640-4300 or through chat in the TWU App.

The Crew Hotel and Accommodations Team is processing hundreds of hotels needed for today.

Our contract provides protections for Flight Attendants who require and have not been provided a hotel room within a reasonable time:
---
Article 35.3.A

If the Company is unable to secure hotel accommodations for a Flight Attendant’s RON, within thirty (30) minutes from block-in or thirty (30) minutes after the last scheduled change occurs, whichever is later the following will apply:

She/he may secure her/his own hotel accommodations and will be reimbursed subject to the submission of an expense report with proper receipts. A Flight Attendant who has secured her/his own hotel accommodation must advise the Company as soon as the hotel accommodation is secured.
---

If you are encountering issues in receiving transportation to and from the airport and hotel at your overnight, you may also secure your own transportation.
---
Article 35.4.A.

The Company will provide and pay for transportation to and from airport and hotel at RON stations. If transportation is not available within thirty (30) minutes from the time Flight Attendants require such transportation, the use of reasonable alternate transportation is authorized and will be reimbursed by the Company subject to proper receipts.
---

If you secure either hotel or transportation, please save your receipts and let me know so I can send you a guide to apply for reimbursement.

KCM is open and Pre-Check is open today. (Monday March 9)

Quick update on HOU TSA lines: wait times are still extremely long, with standard screening taking about 3 hours.

I spoke with the HOU TSA Security Chief yesterday and he was able to accommodate crews through a special lane so they could be processed. I checked in with him again this morning and he confirmed that Pre-Check has reopened today.

Thank you in advance for showing kindness and patience to the TSA officers as you make your way through security

Boarding does not begin at report time.

Over the past couple of weeks, including the recent announcement about relocating the forward Crew Bin, I know many of you have been feeling the impact of operational changes.

Yesterday, management shared information asking Flight Attendants to consider boarding a few minutes earlier when possible.

I want to take a moment to talk about how this fits within Minimum Crew and our report time language.

It’s important to remember that boarding does not automatically begin at our 30 or 45 minute report time. Under Article 8.2.A.1.c, report time includes the appropriate time for Flight Attendants to complete required pre-flight duties before boarding begins.
In other words, report time is not boarding time.

Boarding begins only after the crew is in position, required safety and security checks are complete, and the “A” Flight Attendant has confirmed readiness with the Ops Agent.

The contract already includes provisions related to variable report times and 45-minute reporting for certain aircraft types. Those provisions have not yet been implemented. Any change to report time would come through formal communication from TWU Local 556 and Southwest Airlines.

Requests for early boarding do not change the requirement that readiness must exist before boarding begins.

We have communicated about report times when management has pushed for early boarding procedures. You can read the Basics of Minimum Crew here:

Final Update (Monday Feb 23 9:00 pm)

Extra section flights have been scheduled for tomorrow to supplement tomorrow’s PVR standard schedule. These flights will provide additional transportation options from PVR to DEN, PHX, HOU, and SNL. Everyone that has reached out has obtained a confirmed seat home. This will be my final update.

Update 2 (Monday Feb 23 11:00 am)

Any Flight Attendant currently stuck in PVR will be given a must ride confirmed seat to return home. A must ride works like a normal booking. It’s a confirmed seat, but there does have to be an actual seat available on the flight to secure it.

Right now, the earliest availability is showing Saturday. If seats open up sooner, they can be moved to earlier flights. Regularly scheduled flights are still planned for tomorrow. I do not have confirmation yet on whether the additional sections that were planned for today will be added later this week.

This is being handled across all bases so everyone affected can get home. I believe I have reached out to all Houston based Flight Attendants who are impacted, but if I missed you, please contact the base directly to get your booking details. And of course, I am here if you need anything at all.

Update 1 (Monday Feb 23 9:00 am):

All flights in and out of PVR appear to be canceled today. From the people I’ve been in touch with, the unrest has subsided for now. That said, there are still roadblocks and obstacles making it difficult to even get to the airport. Taxi and ride share services have also been suspended today.

The cancellations are impacting not only passengers, but also airport personnel and crews who would normally be reporting to work.

If you had a booking or listing today, you should have received a cancellation email.

We will stay in contact with those on the ground and will continue our conversations with inflight leadership. The priority right now is making sure everyone has a safe place to shelter and have the support they need.

Original Post:
For anyone currently in PVR, he is the latest update I have for you.

Southwest has added extra flights (what the Company calls “extra sections”) into and out of PVR tomorrow. This provides additional travel options beyond the regularly scheduled flights:

Flight 8828 HOU–PVR 1000C

Flight 8829 PVR–DEN 1350C

Flight 8830 PHX–PVR 1100C

Flight 8831 PVR–SNA 1445C

Flight 8832 DEN–PVR 1115C

Flight 8833 PVR–HOU 1530C

Flight 8834 SNA–PVR 1245C

We do not currently have crews on an overnight in PVR. I also do not have direct visibility of Flight Attendants who live in PVR and commute from there, since their mailing addresses on file are U.S. based.

If you live in PVR, or are currently there visiting, please reach out if you need information or support. You may also contact CISM. We actually have several CISM representatives there.

CISM: (214) 640-4380

If you choose not to leave PVR at this time, please complete the Emergency Event – Employee Status Form on SWALife.

Update: The directive has been reversed.

It’s my understanding that TSA PreCheck and Global Entry may be paused starting tomorrow morning due to the ongoing funding situation.

I just learned of this tonight and have already emailed the Federal Security Director for Houston Hobby for clarification. It’s too late to call this evening, but I will be reaching out first thing in the morning as well, both to express our understanding of the strain his team has been under and to better understand the logistics if a KCM entry results in additional screening while PreCheck lanes are closed.

As soon as I receive guidance, I’ll share the information.n

02/12/2026

This morning a video was posted on SWALife about relocating the forward Crew Bin that many of us rely on when working up front.

You’ll also see an email from our union later today outlining our stance on this matter. The company has decided to move that bin to the rear of the aircraft. We pushed back on this proposal and raised specific operational and safety concerns, along with offering alternative solutions. Ultimately, this decision is being implemented by Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors. It was a business decision. I am disappointed.

I know this is frustrating. That forward space matters when you’re working the galley and managing your personal items during a busy flight.

If you begin to see operational issues, safety concerns, or problems protecting your belongings because of this change, please document them and submit the appropriate reports.

Today, we are actively reviewing the impact of this decision and evaluating next steps.

Please take a few minutes to read our email for additional details.

Hi, Houston!

We’re approaching two weeks with assigned seating, and SWA has begun reviewing feedback and implementing changes to improve the experience. Please continue submitting LINKs to share your feedback. You’re also always welcome to share your experiences directly with me, and I’ll raise your concerns in person during our upcoming meetings with senior inflight leadership.

Some new badge cards have been created with the service rows and ELR information. You can find the badge cards in the red rack in the lounge. Feel free to grab one if you find it useful. They can be attached to your lanyard. I understand the base is also printing a version that includes seat assignments and zones, so use whichever option works best for you.

February marks Black History Month. In 2026, we observe the 100th year of this recognition, honoring the history, achievements, and lasting contributions of Black Americans.

Let us all pause to reflect on and acknowledge the profound impact Black Leaders, Workers, and Community Builders have had — and continue to have — on our workplaces, our Unions, and our communities.
