WHAT DOES $2 A MONTH DO FOR BUCKNER TERRACE?
More than you might realize.
Membership in the Buckner Terrace Neighborhood Association is $24 a year — just $2 a month.
But the value of a strong neighborhood organization isn’t measured simply by what $24 buys.
It’s measured by decades of advocacy, relationships, volunteer service, community events, neighborhood improvements and people consistently showing up for Buckner Terrace.
💚 WE ARE ADVOCATES — NOT REGULATORS.
The Buckner Terrace Neighborhood Association is not a regulatory organization, nor do we try to be one.
We don’t issue citations. We don’t enforce City codes. We don’t approve zoning. We don’t regulate our neighbors.
We advocate.
We work with City Council, City departments, boards and commissions, DISD, police and fire, businesses, developers and community partners to make sure Buckner Terrace has a voice when decisions affect our neighborhood.
And there’s another important distinction:
WE REPRESENT THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
We welcome concerns. We welcome ideas. We welcome involvement.
But membership does not purchase special influence or obligate the Association to advance someone’s personal dispute, business interest, political objective or individual agenda.
Our responsibility is bigger than any one person.
The question we have to ask is:
“Is this in the best interest of Buckner Terrace as a whole?”
That philosophy has guided this organization for decades — and you can see the results throughout our community.
🏗️ WE’VE STOOD UP FOR OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
When an industrial batch plant impacted our community, neighborhood leaders and residents organized and advocated for its removal.
When the crape myrtles along Samuell Boulevard were threatened, Buckner Terrace advocated and pushed to keep them alive.
When zoning, development, infrastructure and other decisions have had the potential to affect our community, Buckner Terrace has shown up.
🏫 WE’VE STOOD UP FOR OUR SCHOOLS.
For years, Buckner Terrace has supported our neighborhood schools, teachers, students and families while advocating for investment in the campuses serving our community.
That advocacy included pushing for improvements and renovations to schools throughout Buckner Terrace.
One of the most significant examples was the transformation of the former Edna Rowe Elementary into Buckner Terrace Montessori in a completely renovated facility — helping bring a DISD choice school directly into our neighborhood.
And investment in that campus continues, with another addition coming.
Strong neighborhoods and strong neighborhood schools go hand in hand.
🚓🚒 WE SUPPORT THE PEOPLE WHO SERVE US.
For decades, Buckner Terrace volunteers have provided Thanksgiving meals for our firefighters.
For decades, we’ve served and supported our police officers during Christmas.
These aren’t one-time gestures. They are traditions built over years of relationships with the first responders who serve our community.
👮 WE’VE WORKED FOR A SAFER COMMUNITY.
Buckner Terrace has a long history of neighbors actively participating in crime prevention.
Our Volunteers in Patrol give their own time to watch out for the community, complemented by Crime Watch signage throughout the neighborhood and a longstanding working relationship with law enforcement.
It’s neighbors looking out for neighbors.
🪧 WE’VE BUILT A NEIGHBORHOOD IDENTITY.
Those Buckner Terrace sign toppers you see throughout the neighborhood didn’t simply appear.
They are part of creating a recognizable community identity and saying something very simple:
This is Buckner Terrace, and we’re proud of where we live.
🎉 WE CREATE COMMUNITY — NOT JUST MEETINGS.
A neighborhood organization should also give people opportunities to actually be neighbors.
That’s why we invest time and resources into events such as National Night Out, our neighborhood pool party, community gatherings, meetings, family activities and other events throughout the year.
These events create connections between people who might otherwise live a few doors apart and never meet.
📱 A DIRECT CONNECTION TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Another app on your phone. 😄
But unlike most apps competing for your attention, the Buckner Terrace app connects you to something in which you already have a vested interest:
Your own neighborhood.
It’s a central connection point for neighborhood news, events, important updates, resources, local businesses, community organizations and opportunities to get involved.
Social media algorithms decide what they think you should see.
Our goal is to create a direct connection between Buckner Terrace and the people who live here.
🤝 PERHAPS OUR GREATEST ASSET IS SOMETHING MONEY CAN’T BUY.
Relationships.
Consistency in leadership and advocacy over many years has helped Buckner Terrace develop strong relationships throughout the City of Dallas and with elected and appointed officials, City departments, DISD, police, fire, businesses, developers, nonprofits and companies that invest in and serve our community.
Those relationships matter.
When there’s a zoning case, a development proposal, a City issue, an opportunity for our schools, a neighborhood improvement or a community event that needs partners…
We aren’t starting from scratch.
Buckner Terrace has spent years showing up, participating, building credibility and developing relationships.
We don’t always get everything we ask for. We don’t always agree with everyone at the table.
But they know Buckner Terrace. They know we’re engaged. And they know we’ll show up.
That credibility wasn’t built overnight.
❤️ AND HERE’S THE PART THAT MAY BE MOST IMPORTANT.
The people doing this work are volunteers.
They aren’t compensated.
Over the years, generations of Buckner Terrace volunteers have given their evenings, weekends, knowledge, professional experience and countless hours to this neighborhood.
They’ve attended City meetings.
Made phone calls.
Written letters.
Met with elected officials.
Worked with City departments.
Advocated on zoning and development.
Supported our schools.
Fed our first responders.
Organized community events.
Worked on neighborhood improvements.
And sometimes they’ve spent years advocating for something before seeing the result.
Much of that work happens quietly.
But its impact can be seen throughout Buckner Terrace.
SO WHAT DOES YOUR $2 A MONTH BUY?
Maybe that’s the wrong question.
Your $24 annual membership isn’t purchasing a service from the Association.
It’s an investment in the collective strength of your neighborhood.
It helps sustain an organization with decades of history, relationships and advocacy.
It supports events that bring us together.
It supports tools that keep us connected.
It helps us support our schools and first responders.
It strengthens our ability to advocate when Buckner Terrace needs a voice.
And it helps ensure that the work continues for the next generation of neighbors.
We aren’t regulators.
