The Nicklas Foundation

The Nicklas Foundation Organ Donor Awareness - Donate Life His gift of life came from 22-year old Air Force Second Lt. David Nicklas.

David Nicklas Organ Donor Awareness Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing fully furnished rent-free housing for transplant patients who live too far from a transplant center. 36-year old Rodney DeBaun received a heart transplant on October 20, 1993. Thanksgiving 1994, Rodney and his family met his donor's family and the two families have remained close ever since. In 1995, Rodney and his

wife, Isibelle, created this organization naming it in memory of the man whose heart Rodney received. Since 2004, The Nicklas Foundation has housed over 100 families from 15 states with ages ranging from 3 months to 72 years. Since 1997, we have awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD. In addition, we support or partner with many other local nonprofits and when Rodney's schedule allows, he provides no-cost air transport to disabled military veterans in one of the planes he owns.

Our Story

The Nicklas Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to spreading the word about organ donation. Currently, the Nicklas Foundation provides fully furnished housing for people who are waiting for a lifesaving transplant and do not live within close proximity to a transplant hospital. During the past six years, the foundation has spent more than $300,000.00 to house more than 35 individuals who were waiting for their gift of life. In addition, the Nicklas Foundation has provided 18 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Grand Prairie Independent School District. In 2011 we were able to increase the scholarship from $1,000.00 to $5,000.00 bringing our total amount awarded to $25,000.00.
