Being used by the Lord in miracles, signs, and wonders is a beautiful thing. So much so that most people in ministry will pursue that with great passion. They go from one conference to the next, read every book under the sun, watch endless videos, and even attempt to practice laying hands and obeying the command of Jesus in Mark 16:17–18—to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover, to speak with new tongues, etc.
The one thing I don’t see pursued with the same level of passion is the powerful blessing, grace, and gift seen in 1 Kings 4, starting at verse 29, where God gives Solomon wisdom, discernment, and breadth of mind.
I don’t see where people pursue wisdom that surpasses the wisdom of most—the wisdom, discernment, and ability to judge in righteousness that also produces a divine ability to understand in greater depths the world around us.
I pray that more of us will desire that so very passionately and pursue it endlessly.
1 Kings 4:29–34 — Amplified for Understanding
Verse 29: God gave Solomon wisdom—the ability to know, understand, and apply knowledge rightly; very great discernment—deep understanding, insight, and the ability to distinguish and perceive matters correctly; and breadth of mind—an extraordinarily vast capacity to think, comprehend, understand, and perceive, like the sand on the seashore.
— 1 Kings 4:29
Verse 30: Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt. His God-given understanding exceeded the wisdom for which those around him were known.
— 1 Kings 4:30
Verse 31: Solomon was wiser than all other men, and his reputation for wisdom became known throughout the surrounding nations.
— 1 Kings 4:31
Verse 32: Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs numbered 1,005. His extraordinary wisdom produced understanding, teaching, communication, and creativity.
— 1 Kings 4:32
Verse 33: Solomon spoke with understanding about trees and plants—from the great cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop growing from the wall. He also understood animals, birds, creeping things, and fish. God gave him the capacity to deeply observe, understand, and speak about the world around him.
— 1 Kings 4:33
Verse 34: People from all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, sent by kings from throughout the earth who had heard about his wisdom.
— 1 Kings 4:34
1 Kings 3:28 — Amplified for Understanding
When all Israel heard the judgment Solomon had given, they stood in awe because they recognized that the wisdom of God was within him to administer justice—to discern the truth of a matter, distinguish rightly, and render a righteous judgment.
— 1 Kings 3:28
Yes, I encourage you to pursue the commandment in Mark, but I exhort you to pursue this level of wisdom and understanding—the kind that truly sets you apart and makes known the presence and power of the Most High God.
The level of wisdom that you walk in is a testimony of the wisdom of GOD.
Pursue it. Seek after it. Ask the Lord to amplify it in your life, and don’t let it go!
