It’s always a privilege to partner with the Dallas Police Department Community Affairs office. From gun violence awareness, business robbery symposium, and now a multicultural works shop, this office believes in a multi prong approach to engaging the communities in which we live to create a safe and better Dallas.

The State of Texas lost a music icon. I first heard Flaco play on the 40 acres. It was a neat experience to hear him play on campus. He didn’t perform a full set, but the most important song he played was at the end, the Eyes of Texas. 🤘🏽

The Tejano and conjunto music community is grieving the loss of one of its most beloved and pioneering figures, Flaco Jiménez, who passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 86. Known as a master of the accordion and a cultural ambassador for Mexican-American music, Flaco's impact stretched far beyond his San Antonio roots. His family shared the news with fans through a heartfelt statement, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, and emphasizing that his legacy will endure through the music and memories he gifted to the world.
Born into a family rich with musical tradition, Flaco Jiménez carried forward the legacy of his father, Santiago Jiménez Sr., and elevated the conjunto genre to new artistic heights. From his early days performing with his father at age seven to achieving international acclaim, Flaco’s career spanned over seven decades and included collaborations with artists like Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Emmylou Harris, and the Texas Tornados. These cross-genre partnerships helped expose conjunto music to broader audiences and established Flaco as a musical bridge between cultures and generations.
Throughout his storied career, Flaco received numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and the National Heritage Fellowship. His influence can still be heard in modern Tejano, norteño, and folk music, where his signature accordion style remains a source of inspiration. As tributes pour in from across the globe, fans and fellow musicians remember not just the virtuosity of Flaco Jiménez, but the joy, pride, and cultural richness he brought to every note. His music lives on, forever woven into the fabric of American and Mexican musical heritage.
Flaco was, and will forever be remembered as, a true legend of Texas Music. He will be greatly missed.

Tonight marks a powerful milestone in American television. The son of Cuban immigrants and a proud Latino — Tom Llamas becomes the first Hispanic to permanently anchor NBC’s Nightly News.

As someone who studied media and now works in government affairs, I know the power of stories and storytellers. This isn’t just about a promotion — it’s about progress. Congrats, Tom. You’re making history, and I’ll be watching.

Last week, I had the honor of joining an inspiring panel at the HNBA Region XII in Dallas titled “Changing the Narrative: Our Book of Triumphs.” Sharing space with strong attorneys - and - like Hilda Galvan, Maria Fernandez, Bridget Lopez and Veronica Lane was both humbling and energizing. We spoke candidly about our journeys, the barriers we’ve overcome and continue to face, and how powerful it is when we lift as we climb.

As a Latino lawyer working in government affairs at Starbucks, I’m proud to contribute to conversations that bridge advocacy, business, and community. Thank you to HNBA Region XII and the organizers for the invitation and the impactful work you all lead across the region. Let’s keep changing the narrative.

What’s happening at the federal level during these last few months should concern us all. While Harvard may weather the blow, most universities can’t afford to lose critical research funding—funding that drives innovation, fuels local economies, and improves everyday lives.

This isn’t just about Harvard. From ignoring court orders to return a family man illegally deported to threatening economic stability with tariff swings, the unpredictability is real—and it’s hitting close to home.

If you’re watching this and more unfold and are concerned, you can engage. Talk to your family and friends. Help someone register to vote and voice your concerns to your elected officials.

Trump on Tuesday threatened the school’s tax exempt status, and a $2.2 billion freeze on grants kicked in. Harvard borrowed money in anticipation of cuts.

This week has been a difficult one for many of our partners (employees). On a positive note, I had the opportunity to meet Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol and talk about where we’re headed. Through the ups and downs, one thing is clear—our partners, our customers, and our commitment to great coffee will always be at the heart of what we do. We also talked about my work in government affairs here in Texas and the important role it plays in shaping the future of our business.

The road ahead won’t be without challenges, but after this conversation, I’m inspired and more confident than ever that the best days for Starbucks are still brewing.
