Confidence doesn’t always show up first.

In her interview, she shares her thoughts on making smart choices and what it was like stepping outside of her comfort zone during the ALPHA Youth Leadership Program.

One of the best parts of this program has been watching our youth discover they’re capable of more than they thought. Not because someone told them they could, but because they gave themselves the chance to try.

Hi, My name is Jessica Bennett and I am the program creator and director of A.L.P.H.A.

One of the biggest surprises of the ALPHA Youth Leadership Program…

The kids weren’t the only ones learning.

We asked them to try new things, meet new people, speak up, step outside their comfort zones, and believe in themselves, even when they were nervous.

And then they did.

Watching them choose courage over comfort made me stop and ask myself a question:

What am I still afraid of?

This past Saturday, I stood in front of a room full of people to speak at our graduation ceremony. Normally, I would’ve been overthinking every word. But this time, I wasn’t. I was simply sharing something I believed in.

It reminded me that growth doesn’t stop when you become an adult. Sometimes the people we’re trying to mentor end up mentoring us, too.

That’s one of the gifts these young people gave me.

ALPHA was created to help youth discover their confidence, purpose, and potential. Somewhere along the way, they reminded the adults in the room that we’re still growing, too.

I don’t think any of us left this program the same people who walked into it, and I think that’s exactly what made this experience so special. 💚

There’s something powerful about choosing courage, even when you’re nervous.

When Kendyl first joined the ALPHA Youth Leadership Program, stepping into a room full of new faces and trying new activities felt intimidating. But growth doesn’t happen by staying comfortable, it happens when we decide to take that first step anyway.

We’re so proud of Kendyl for showing up, pushing through, and giving herself the chance to have an amazing experience.

Each of you played an important role in helping our youth build confidence, practice accountability, strengthen their skills, and see themselves as leaders.

Your impact went far beyond the activities and lessons. You helped create an environment where every child could learn, grow, be challenged, and still feel supported.
