La Colectiva NTX is a grassroots, community-led initiative standing alongside immigrant families across North Texas with compassion, dignity, and practical support.

Our work began outside the Dallas ICE Field Office, where families arrived for appointments carrying uncertainty, fear, and often very little information about what could happen next. What started with a simple call for volunteers, emergency contact information, privacy waivers, pens, prayers, and a hot meal quickly grew into an organized network of neighbors committed to making sure no family has to navigate these moments alone.

Rain, snow, Texas heat, sun or shine, our volunteers continue showing up. We provide resource navigation, emergency preparedness information, food and essential supplies, transportation assistance, family support, referrals to trusted community and legal resources, and accompaniment during some of the most difficult moments families face.

La Colectiva is built on community taking care of community — comunidad cuidando a comunidad. We serve families regardless of immigration status, language, income, or background, while working intentionally to make resources accessible to those who are too often left without support.

Your North Texas Giving Day gift helps us keep showing up: supporting families in crisis, equipping volunteers, providing essential resources, and strengthening a community response rooted in dignity, solidarity, and hope. Because when a family is facing uncertainty, they should never have to face it alone.

You can donate via the QR code or text Colectiva to (844) 844-6844.

We want to thank the The Dallas Morning News for coming out and not only sweating with us but also drawing attention to how our neighbors are being arrested at what they assume to be a regular ICE check-in.

6 days a week our volunteers come out to do crisis management. We let community members know they may not walk out of what they perceive to be a regular appointment. Give them a sticky note to write an emergency number down to stick in their pocket, or bra since they only get a 30-second call inside, and please share their “alien” number with a loved one to later be able to locate them should they be detained. They do this from 5:30 am to 3:00 pm. If this article moves you, please consider volunteering with us, or donating!

Zoya Choudhry volunteers with La Colectiva North Texas, a grassroots group that aids people who have appointments at Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Dallas field office. They tackle logistical challenges, but also provide an emotional and spiritual anchor for people on one of the most difficult days of their lives.

La Colectiva may not be able to stop someone from being deported, Choudhry said. But the volunteers can help detainees’ relatives pay rent and make sure their car doesn’t get towed. Sometimes, even just a bottle of water can make a difference.

Community be aware that the Texas Game Wardens have collaborated with ICE. In the last 24 hours, we have been notified that two people were detained while fishing. While you do have to identify yourself to officers, you do NOT have to sign anything or answer any questions.

If your loved one was picked up, call our hotline: (682) 238 - 0618 so we can help you locate your loved one and let you know the next steps.

We’re hosting our next training! 🦋

You’ll hear from some of our boots-on-the-ground volunteers about how we help community members prepare for an encounter with ICE, and what follows after a detainment.

If you’re looking for a way to help reduce harm done by ICE, and be in community with our affected neighbors, please join us. You don’t have to speak Spanish to help.
