August 21 is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day an annual observance established by affected families and advocacy groups.

Today The NUNO Project honors the life and memory of Nuno. Nuno’s story is one of loss but it is also a story that deserves to be used for awareness, education, and prevention. Fentanyl has taken far too many lives leaving families behind to carry a pain that never truly goes away. We believe that by sharing Nuno’s story, educating our communities, and having the difficult conversations about fentanyl, we can help prevent another family from experiencing this devastating loss.

We remember Nuno not only for how we lost him, but for who he was, how deeply he was loved, and the impact his life continues to have. One conversation can save a life. One dose of awareness can make a difference. One life saved makes every effort worth it.

Today we had the privilege of speaking at the First Offenders Program in honor of Nuno. Every time we share his story, we hope someone in the room realizes that one decision can change the course of an entire life not only their own, but the lives of everyone who loves them. Nuno wasn’t defined by how his life ended. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and someone whose smile could light up any room. His life continues to have purpose because his story is now helping others make different choices.

Standing before those young men and women we were there to remind them that their past does not have to determine their future. Every person has the ability to choose a new path, to break cycles, and to become someone their family can be proud of.

The Nuno Project was founded because we refuse to let Nuno’s story end with tragedy. His legacy is now one of education, prevention, hope, and second chances. Thank you to the First Offenders Program and Sharon Roland, Founder of R.O.O for allowing us to be part of this important conversation and for investing in lives that still have so much potential.

If just one person walks away today determined to make a different choice, then Nuno’s legacy continues to save lives. 🧸

Last week we had the privilege of providing donuts for the entire student body at Gaston Middle School on the morning of the STAAR test. While STAAR testing comes with strict guidelines and limited opportunities for photos, the impact of that morning was never about the pictures it was about the students.

It was about making sure every student walked in feeling supported, encouraged, and reminded that they were capable before they ever picked up a pencil. A small gesture, but one rooted in something much bigger: showing our youth that they are seen, valued, and worth showing up for. At The NUNO Project, we believe support matters in the quiet moments too the ones that may never be photographed, but still leave a lasting impact.

To the students of Gaston Middle School, we hope those donuts were more than breakfast. We hope they were a reminder to walk in with confidence, trust what you know, and give it your best.

We were able to share NUNO’s story and the dangers of illicit fentanyl and opioid use with over 200 students today! The students were engaged, and asked questions. Another successful presentation in the books!

A big thanks to Ms. Najera and Gaston MS for continuing to advocate for us and allowing us to come out to share our mission and story! This wouldn’t be possible without them!! We appreciate everything you do and all of your support!

America is under siege — not by a foreign army, but by a synthetic poison: fentanyl. Every day, families are shattered by a drug so lethal that just a few grains can end a life. And while the crisis deepens, our system is failing to hold traffickers, dealers, and enablers accountable.

The HALT Act is a necessary response — not just to protect our borders, but to protect our people. This legislation aims to stop the revolving door of justice, to put real consequences in place for those pushing poison into our communities. It demands accountability for those fueling the epidemic — from street dealers to transnational cartels.

This is not politics. This is survival.

We owe it to the families who bury their loved ones, to the kids growing up in neighborhoods flooded with pills, and to the officers on the front lines — to HALT the flow, HALT the destruction, and HALT the death
