Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Rob Sweetman, fmr. Navy Seal, TedX Speaker, sleep scientist, and founder of Sleep Genius on Badge of Honor TV.

From staying awake for more than 5 days in Navy SEAL training, to long hours on deployments, to writing research papers on Sleep Science in Graduate School, Robert has experienced every level of sleep.

In 2010, Rob finished the most grueling military training in the world, BUD/S, where is awake for 5.5 days, enduring the worst imaginable experiences.

In 2012 Rob completed BUDs class 284, where he sustained a quadruple hernia requiring surgery. He served for eight years where he did two deployments with SEAL Team Seven and became an instructor at Advanced Training Command. He was medically retired after a back injury but had multiple other "hidden" injuries. Those included Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI),Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Insomnia. Robert used Ambien to go to sleep and stimulants to wake up. At one point in time he was using NyQuil to go to sleep at night.

In 2017, after the loss of Rob's teammate, SO1 Ryan Larkin, Rob dedicated his life to sleep. He wrote a sleep pod Patent and designed a deployable sleep pod for his brothers in the SEAL teams.

In 2023 Rob was named the "Sleep Genius" after helping a cohort of active duty Navy S.E.A.L.s in the 62romeo program. Since then he has taken on private clients for Sleep Coaching and Keynote Speeches. Find out more at https://www.sleepgeni.us/

22 Swims. 22 Miles. 22 Lakes & Rivers. One Mission on A Badge of Honor TV last night.
The planning is done. Now it’s time to make it real.
The TriHope Mission is 22 open-water swims of 22 miles each, in 22 lakes and rivers across the United States, over roughly a year. The goal is simple but powerful: fundraise for and actively incorporate veterans and first responders in a unique, community-centered way.
This isn’t just about the miles in the water. It’s about showing up—recon the day before, swimming alongside special operators and first responders, then gathering with local communities at churches and community centers to share why this matters. It’s about turning the sobering reality of the “22” (roughly 22 veterans lost to su***de each day) into something tangible: connection, presence, and hope.
From swimming with Navy SEALs to building relationships with those who serve, this mission is about community engagement first—because the issue is local before it is state or national. And hope is the only answer.
Your support makes the logistics, travel, events, and direct impact possible.
Please donate, share, or get involved at trihope.org Replay link in the comments.

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Trent Fielder, founder of Tri-Hope on Badge of Honor TV.

In 2011 Trent was told he would die from complications of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. What began as a sudden loss of control of his hands and arms quickly progressed until his legs failed him on the drive home from work. By the next day he was in the hospital, paralyzed, and facing a diagnosis that would later be refined to Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)—a relentless condition that attacks the nerves and can cause permanent damage.

When blood clots and plummeting lung capacity led doctors to suggest he accept the end of the road, he fired them. With the support of determined physical therapists, music, and an unconventional approach, he began the long process of relearning how to breathe and move. After nearly six years, he took his first unassisted steps with the Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF), using improvised tools and a method that treated his legs like piano keys—relying on vibration and muscle memory in place of normal sensation.

ATF introduced Trent to veterans and first responders whose service is too often followed by isolation and despair. Their stories inspired him to compete in a half-Ironman as a way to raise awareness of the mental health crisis affecting those who serve. Crossing the finish line on his own legs became one of many milestones that followed: writing his first book, strengthening his faith, and navigating the deep strain the illness placed on his marriage and relationships.

Today Trent share this journey as a hope advocate. Suffering is universal, but when we tell the truth about it, we create the conditions for others to keep going. Trent is in the race for those who lost their hope—and he is up to the task.
