One day you're simply the son or daughter. The next, you're helping navigate doctor appointments, medications, housing decisions, finances, and difficult conversations you never expected to have.

One of the things we hear most often from caregivers is, "I didn't know where to start." Caregiving doesn't discriminate.

When we think about caregiving, it's easy to imagine it's something that happens to "other people." But the reality is that millions of families are navigating the challenges of caring for aging parents, spouses, and loved ones every day.

A recent story about Dolly Parton's experience caring for her husband highlights something many caregivers know all too well: when you're focused on taking care of someone else, it's easy to put your own health and well-being on the back burner.

Caregiving can be rewarding, meaningful, and an expression of deep love.

It can also be exhausting.

The appointments, decisions, responsibilities, worries, and constant balancing act can take a toll on even the strongest caregivers.

If you're helping care for an aging loved one, please remember:

💙 You are not alone.
💙 It's okay to ask for help.
💙 Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of them.

That's why ACAP exists. Our mission is to provide education, resources, support, and community for adult children and family caregivers navigating the journey of aging and caregiving.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is just beginning their caregiving journey?

Like many caregivers, Dolly Parton didn’t take care of her own health while caring for her ailing husband. That’s not unusual, even among people with resources.
