The International Day of Sign Languages is a unique opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users. All people have an inherent right to human rights from birth. For deaf people, sign language rights are fundamental for the full enjoyment of their human rights as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As we mark the Day we recognize the progress made and the challenges that remain in ensuring equality for all. The achievements are leading towards the goal of a world where deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere.

According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are more than 70 million deaf people worldwide. More than 80% of them live in developing countries. Collectively, they use more than 300 different sign languages.

Led by the AIDS Institute, National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day (NHAAD) is observed each year on September 18 to focus on the increasing number of people who, because of major advancements in HIV treatment, are living long, full lives with HIV. The awareness day also calls attention to the unique health and social needs, as well as the challenges of HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care among people who are aging.

What is ?

Annually, from September 16-23, GLAAD, the Bisexual Resource Center, and Still Bisexual recognize the bisexual+ community for Bisexual Awareness Week, culminating in Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day on September 23.

Bisexual+ Awareness Week seeks to accelerate the acceptance of the bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, fluid, no label, q***r, etc.) community.

draws attention to the experiences, while also celebrating the resiliency of, the bisexual+ community. Throughout , allies and bi+ people learn about the history, culture, community, and current policy priorities of bi+ communities.

In 2014, GLAAD co-founded and co-led the first with BiNet USA to draw attention to the issues faced by the bi+ community, including erasure and visibility.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. While we celebrate Hispanic and Latino communities beyond this month, from September 15 to October 15 we give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.

Sept. 11, 2001, changed more than the skyline of New York City - the attacks changed a generation of Americans, our Army and our world. That day's destruction and devastation did not condemn this country to a future filled with fear. No, this loss, as profound as it was, did not break the soul of this nation. It made us stronger. That day fortified Americans with pride and patriotism and created a spirit of service in the hearts of a new generation. That day fundamentally changed our nation and our Army for the better. We now observe Patriot Day annually on September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance for the thousands of lives lost in the 9/11 attacks.

September 10th is World Su***de Prevention Day

World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD) is organized by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP). WHO has been co-sponsor of the day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that su***de can be prevented.

Much can be done at individual, community and national levels to prevent su***de and su***de attempts.

WHO’s LIVE LIFE approach recommends four effective, evidence-based key interventions which should be included in every national response to su***de:

limit access to the means of su***de
interact with the media for responsible reporting of su***de
foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents
early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviors.
The foundational pillars of the interventions are situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation.

Su***de prevention efforts require coordination and collaboration among multiple sectors, including health, education, labor, agriculture, business, justice, law, defense, politics and the media. Su***de prevention is often not adequately addressed because of stigma and lack of awareness that su***de is a major public health problem.

THE WALKING DEAD PARTY — POSTPONED UNTIL 2027!

Hey familia! We’ve made the decision to postpone our Walking Dead Party originally scheduled for October 10.

But don’t worry—the walkers WILL rise again.

This event has grown into something that deserves more time, more hands, and more room to create the big, ridiculous, zombie-filled experience we imagined. Rather than rush it, we’re giving it the time it deserves.

The Walking Dead Party will officially return in 2027!

For now, Color Splash Out is shifting our energy toward smaller gatherings where LGBTQIA+ youth, families, and allies can connect, play, laugh, and simply belong.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, supported, planned, and got excited with us.

The dead aren’t gone. They’re just sleeping until 2027.
