🎓 Looking for something different to do this weekend? Visit a college campus!

College visits don’t always have to be formal tours. Take your student to walk around a local campus, explore the buildings and student spaces, and talk about what they notice.

The goal isn’t to choose a college that day—it’s to help them become familiar with different campuses and start imagining the possibilities.

Even middle school is a great time to start exploring. 💚

Hello, October! 🍂 Here are a few things that move seniors closer to campus this month:

✅ Open the FAFSA and start filling it in
✅ Add 2 scholarships to the list every week
✅Schedule a campus tour this fall
✅ Ask a teacher for a recommendation letter

Parents and guardians: the 2027–28 FAFSA is open now. Pull together your 2025 tax information and set aside time to sit down with your student. Filing early gives them the best shot at limited aid.

College conversations don’t have to begin with applications, deadlines, or choosing a school.

Middle school is an ideal time to start with curiosity. Talk with your child about their interests, possible careers, campus life, and the many opportunities available after high school.

The goal isn’t to pressure young people into making an early decision. It’s to give them time to explore, ask questions, build confidence, and imagine what their future could look like.

Sometimes all it takes to change a life trajectory is one visit to a college campus.

This Saturday, our Young Black & Suburban Kids scholars are touring Texas Wesleyan University! We're so excited for our students, to walked a college campus, talked with current students, asked questions, and get a real feel for what campus life is like — and that kind of exposure matters more than we can say.

"You can't picture yourself there if you've never seen it." That's exactly why we do this work: creating exposure, opening up possibilities, and helping our young people see themselves as future college students.

At Young, Black, and Suburban Kids, we're creating exactly that — a space where teens learn alongside their peers, ask without judgment, and get real answers. Because suburban youth deserve spaces that see them, support them, and remind them they belong.

Whether it's academic planning, cultural experiences, or simply having someone who listens, we're here to help middle and high schoolers across North Texas feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.
