Legacy of my Dad, Gerald Skinner

My sweet SIL asked me what qualities my Daddy had that I wish to apply to my life to carry on his Legacy?

Here’s my answers:

1. Faithfulness

My dad lived a long life and raised a family that loved him deeply. Through life’s joys and hardships, he remained steadfast. You can honor him by continuing to trust God, staying faithful to your commitments, and living with integrity even when circumstances are difficult.

Scripture: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

2. Love for Family

You often spoke of your parents’ love for their children and grandchildren. A powerful way to carry on your dad’s legacy is to continue loving, encouraging, and bringing your family together, just as he did.

Scripture: “Above all, love each other deeply.” — 1 Peter 4:8

3. Strength and Perseverance

Your father endured much in his 89 years and continued forward. Life brings challenges, but he demonstrated resilience. You can honor him by facing difficulties with courage and determination rather than giving up.

Scripture: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” — Hebrews 12:1

4. Kindness and Generosity

The fact that his passing left such a deep void speaks to the impact he had on others. Kindness is a legacy that continues long after a person is gone. Continue being generous with your time, encouragement, prayers, and love.

Scripture: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” — Ephesians 4:32

5. Time - I’m so honored that my Daddy always had time to spend with me as a child growing up. He was my softball coach, my biggest fan when I played volleyball, basketball and softball. He taught me how to drive, work with integrity, fish, hunt and be the best at whatever I set my heart and mind to.

“One of the greatest legacies my dad left behind was his wit and wonderful sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make everyone laugh, brighten a room, and bring people together with his funny jokes and quick comebacks. I will carry on this part of his legacy by sharing laughter, finding joy in everyday moments, and making others smile just as he did.”

I put in words that described my precious Daddy to a “T” and each value shined through his entire Life! I choose Happiness, Joy and Laughter to honor my Daddy’s Legacy. He was “one of the Best” and I miss him dearly! ❤️
