🔥🏳️‍⚧️ PRIDE MONTH. JUNETEENTH. FREEDOM. LET’S TALK ABOUT IT. 🏳️‍⚧️🔥

Every June, we show up.

We buy tickets.
We attend the parties.
We go to the festivals.
We wave the flags.
We celebrate freedom.

But as a Black trans woman living in Texas, I have to ask:

What exactly are we celebrating if some of us are still fighting just to exist?

Juneteenth recognizes the day enslaved Black people in Texas finally learned they were free.

Think about that.

People were legally free, but nobody told them.

People were free on paper, but not free in practice.

People were free, yet systems were still working against them.

Sound familiar?

Because in 2026, many transgender Texans are living a version of that same reality.

We are celebrating freedom while watching our identities be challenged.
We are celebrating freedom while our access to healthcare is under attack.
We are celebrating freedom while laws and policies are being used to erase us from public life.
We are celebrating freedom while many trans people are afraid to use a restroom, apply for a job, access housing, or simply be themselves in public.

So no, this isn’t me saying don’t celebrate.

Celebrate.
Dance.
Laugh.
Love on your people.

But don’t let the party make you forget the purpose.

Before the celebrities.
Before the concerts.
Before the brunches.
Before the nightlife.

There were organizers.
There were advocates.
There were community leaders.
There were everyday people fighting behind the scenes to make sure our community survives another year.

Freedom has never been something we received.
Freedom has always been something we fought for.

That’s why spaces like our Family Reunion Summit matter.

Not because we’re trying to throw another event.

But because we need places where our community can come together and ask the hard questions:

➡️ What resources are we losing?
➡️ What policies are affecting us?
➡️ How do we protect ourselves?
➡️ How do trans women and trans men heal together?
➡️ How do we build something stronger for the next generation?

This Pride Month, I challenge us to do more than celebrate.

I challenge us to organize.
I challenge us to educate.
I challenge us to heal.
I challenge us to build.

Because freedom isn’t just waving a flag.

Freedom is being able to live your truth without fear.

And until every trans person can do that, our work isn’t finished.
