Humanitarian Outreach for Migrant Emotional Health - HOME

Humanitarian Outreach for Migrant Emotional Health - HOME Asylum seekers are in flight for their lives, but explaining this in court is tough. H.O.M.E. clinicians document a migrant’s journey and its emotional impact.

We testify to emotional health and how immigration status can be part of the solution.

Jenifer Wolf Williams, EdD, LPA, LPC-S
Our Executive Director Jenifer Wolf Williams began her practice in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where she served clients affected by the Salvadoran Civil War and by severe domestic violence. Then for more than a decade, Jenifer offered pro bono services to asylum seekers in Texas. In 2020, she co-founded Humanitarian Outreach for Migrant Emotional Health (H.O.M.E.) to document human rights abuses for asylum petitions and to advocate for immigration policies that preserve emotional health. Follow us to learn more about her journey and our mission here at H.O.M.E

Guantanamo: a prison with a history of torture. Now, the administration wants to send trauma survivors there based on their immigration status. Social psychology tells us that when we dehumanize others, atrocities often follow. We must commit ourselves to being decent neighbors. Immigrants are contributing members of our communities, families deserving of respect and due process.

Our purpose is to ensure the voices of traumatized migrants are heard and understood. We do this by listening to and documenting their accounts of human rights abuses, by serving as expert witnesses for their asylum petitions, and by advocating for policies that will preserve their emotional health.

Our vision includes expansion of services in all southern border states, trauma care for immigrant communities, and mental health education for host communities and policymakers toward a kinder, more welcoming social environment.

As 2023 winds down, we thank all those who have joined us this year as supporters of our important work and we hope if you have not already you might consider making a gift before year-end.

Our work goes beyond direct services. We advocate for fair immigration policies that protect the mental health of migrants and the communities who welcome them. These policies are vital for long-term healing. Your support and advocacy will make a lasting impact on those seeking safety and refuge.

Please consider making a gift this year-end and joining our special effort to raise $40,000. We are excited to share that all donations made by December 31 will be matched dollar for dollar up to $20,000 thanks to the generosity of: Coleen Higa,...

*Children may be harmed the most by Texas’ illegal entry bill, advocates warn*

"There is zero mystery regarding psychological impact on affected children," Wolf-Williams said. "Decades of research have repeatedly shown that separating, detaining or deporting families causes long-term psychological and physical harm."

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott hasn't signed the bill yet, which enables local and state law enforcement officers to arrest anyone who’s entered the United States illegally.

H.O.M.E. is grateful for the Center for US-Latin America Initiatives (CUSLAI) at UT Dallas - and for all of you who recognize the needs of asylum seekers ❤

Hello everyone!

With CUSALI this year for North Texas Giving Day, we wanted to uplift the amazing organization Humanitarian Outreach for Migrant Emotional Health - HOME.

If you can, please share and support at this link https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/Humanitarian-Outreach-For-Migrant-Emotional-Health

We wanted to uplift this message by Jenifer Wolf-Wiliams, the Executive Director at H.O.M.E:

"Today, as I sit at my desk, my heart feels the weight and urgency of North Texas Giving Day – a day that's upon us now. The stories, the faces, the dreams of the asylum seekers we serve aren’t just files in our office – they are deeply etched in our hearts. These are individuals who, amidst unimaginable challenges, search for a glimmer of hope. And today, I’m reaching out, not just as the Executive Director of H.O.M.E., but as a fellow human being, deeply moved and committed to their cause.

Their emotional battles and resilience inspire us every single day. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide essential mental health support, to advocate for compassionate immigration policies, and to offer immediate, critical help when needed. But more than ever, on this special day, we need your hands to join ours.

As someone who has seen the raw realities faced by these incredible souls, I urge you to make a difference today. Share our mission with your friends and family, shout it out from the rooftops if you can!"
