Garland Sports Hall of Fame

Let's make a difference in the lives of our special student athletes folks!

Please mark your calendars for October 19th at Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett for the 2026 Bobby Boyd Golf Classic!

This golf tournament is our annual fundraiser for the Garland Sports Hall of Fame, which exists to honor current student athletes from the Garland Independent School District, while also recognizing the previous special athletes through their induction into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame.

The Garland Sports Hall of Fame is a privately-funded organization, so we rely on the goodwill of the public to raise scholarship money for the male and female recipients of the Gale Fields award each year. Please consider sponsoring this amazing event, playing in the tournament, or both. Don't play golf and want to participate? Reach out to me directly for opportunities to get involved and please share with your friends.

Let's build on previous success of the tournament, and make the 2026 Bobby Boyd Golf Classic the best yet! You can scan the QR code to register and or sponsor the event.

Thank you and God Bless. 🙏

Garland's own steps down after six NFL seasons and a collegiate ironman streak.

Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Hakeem Adeniji has retired from the NFL just 1 week after signing a free-agent contract.

Keith checked in with us a couple of times upon being nominated to the Garland Sports Hall of Fame. While he made those contacts from the faraway places where life had taken him -- Los Angeles, Brazil -- Keith was thrilled people back home remembered him and excited to be considered for the hometown honor.

Sad news as former New Orleans Saints standout linebacker Keith Mitchell has passed away at age 51. The 2000 Pro Bowler was a standout at Texas A&M.

First-round pick Zuby Ejiofor extends a somewhat familiar "Garland to the NBA" story. Tyrese Maxey's numbers have improved every season in Philadelphia, scoring 28.3 points per game and landing a starting role in this season's All-Star Game. Maxey's 8,182 career points are third all-time for a player from Garland. 1990 Garland Sports Hall of Fame inductee Ricky Pierce scored 17,600 points and won two NBA Sixth Man awards. Mookie Blaylock, who preceded Ejiofor in Atlanta, is second on the all-time Garland scorers list with 11,962.

Ejiofor becomes the first Red Storm player picked in the NBA draft since Sir’Dominic Pointer in 2015

Mark Behrens joined us this afternoon as we installed his plaque and fellow 2026 inductee Greg Harvey in the Garland Sports Hall of Fame's display in the upper concourse of the Culwell Center (2025 inductees Bobby Watters and Greg Crowe on the lower half). We don't set foot in the place without our sincere thanks to the Garland ISD for the quality display space.

One more bit of history to share from our 2026 Garland Sports Hall of Fame banquet. For the first time ever, we had one of our nominees, Terrance Smith and Smith Spot BBQ, participating as the event caterer. That's also him, #56, on the commemorative football from the 1999 GHS state championship football team. He had a scoop-and-score TD in the title game.
