Another pickup, another pile of scraps put to work. 🌱

With a commercial pickup from Press Juice Bar and scraps from our neighbors, our Mini Free Backyard Composting Program is now up to 4,571 pounds of organic waste diverted from landfills!

We currently have room to add local businesses and individuals to the program. If you’re in the Waxahachie area and interested in participating, send me a message!

It all adds up, one bucket at a time. Thank you to everyone saving scraps and helping turn them into something useful. ♻️

I love the way these look sorted!The bottle caps are slowly adding up for our mural. We were excited to see people dropping them off at Nicholas P. Sims Library and the Waxahachie Family YMCA, and we took some time to sort what we’ve collected so far.

So many colors. The green caps are my favorite and Adaline’s, too. Which color do you think really pops?

We still need soooo many more. We’re not encouraging anyone to use more plastic bottles, but if you already use them, we’d appreciate you saving the caps for us.

You can drop off clean plastic caps at Nicholas P. Sims Library or the Waxahachie Family YMCA. Or, of course, at our place if you know us personally.

Junior is the longest resident at the Waxahachie Animal Shelter. He was brought to the shelter after his owner passed away, and you can tell he was well loved.

He seems to be house trained and gets along well with other dogs. He’s had a big change in his life, and I would love to see him find a family to love him again.

If you’re looking for a companion, stop by and meet Junior. Please share to help him find a home.

My favorite kind of earrings showed up in the mail today: wild penstemon and carnivorous plants from Jabebo Studio! They’re a family owned company in Pennsylvania that makes earrings using post consumer cereal boxes.

I don’t collect much, and I’m not usually one to encourage buying more stuff, but my gosh, I love these earrings. The fact that they arrived on my 37th birthday made them even more fun to open. 🌿

We now have two places to drop off plastic bottle caps: the Waxahachie YMCA and Nicholas P. Sims Library!

Our goal is to turn the caps into art that helps educate the public about plastic pollution. If you have extra caps lying around the house, please feel free to drop them off at either location.

One way we cut down on food waste is by dehydrating produce that’s getting close to the edge of going bad.

This week it was strawberries. They were on sale last week, and we may have gone a little overboard.

We bought our dehydrator secondhand on Facebook Marketplace for $15 and have been using it pretty regularly for about three years now. It has definitely earned its keep.

For strawberries, we dehydrate them at 135°F for about 8 to 12 hours, depending on how thick they’re sliced.

It’s a simple way to save food before it ends up in the compost bin or trash, and dehydrated strawberries are pretty great to have around too.

We’re trying something new locally.

We’re starting to collect plastic bottle caps at the Waxahachie YMCA with the goal of creating an educational bottle cap mural. Bottle cap murals have been around for a while, but this will be a new project for us, and I’m excited to see what we can create with it.

If you have clean plastic bottle caps at home, please start saving them for us. We’d really appreciate the help.

And while I’m talking about the YMCA, they have a KaBOOM! playground build coming up October 3 and need 60 volunteers to help make it happen. Childcare will be provided for volunteers.

So save us your bottle caps, and if you have some time on October 3, consider helping build a playground for local kids.

A little plastic reuse and a lot of community effort. Both sound pretty good to me.
