🏨 The Story of the Miller Hotel — A Dadeville Landmark Through the Years

If you've ever walked the courthouse square in Dadeville, you’ve seen it — the old Miller Hotel, standing quietly with its brick façade and tall windows, watching more than a century of Tallapoosa County life unfold. Though its doors have opened and closed many times, the building remains one of downtown Dadeville’s most recognizable historic structures.

🌿 Roots in the Miller Family
The Miller name has been part of Tallapoosa County since the 1870s, when family members settled in the area and built a life through farming, a cotton gin, a general store, and even the well‑known Miller Ferry. By the 1890s, the family had moved to Dadeville, where their businesses became woven into the town's daily rhythm.

🏨 A Hotel for a Growing County
Local accounts describe the Miller Hotel building as a 1920s-era structure, built during a time when Dadeville was bustling with courthouse visitors, traveling salesmen, and families passing through the region long before Lake Martin existed.

Hotels like this were the heartbeat of small Southern towns — places where people ate, slept, swapped news, and gathered around the warmth of a café counter.

☕ Mid‑Century Memories
As the decades passed and travel habits changed, the Miller Hotel adapted. Community memories recall the building serving as a café, a boarding house, and a familiar meeting spot. Many locals remember grabbing a bite there or stopping in during courthouse business.

Buildings like this often shifted roles, but they remained central to the town's life.

🛠️ Decline and Revival
Like many historic downtown structures, the Miller Hotel eventually fell quiet. But in 2021, a new wave of interest swept in. Local reporting highlighted a restoration effort to bring the building back to life as a restaurant, snack bar, and bed‑and‑breakfast — a project fueled by community pride and a desire to preserve Dadeville's heritage.

Whether fully restored or still in progress, the Miller Hotel remains a symbol of what Dadeville has always been: a town that remembers its past while looking toward its future.

❤️ Can you add any memories of the hotel?
