šŸ”„ā˜Žļø Announcing HERA’s Heat Science Hotline!šŸ”„ā˜Žļø

Say hello to the Heat Science Hotline—a free, rapid-response science support that connects decision-makers directly with world-leading heat-relevant scientists and experts.šŸ”„

Extreme heat is the deadliest climate hazard—and it’s accelerating at an alarming rate. Yet the people racing to respond still lack access to fast, actionable, locally grounded science to inform their actions. We’re addressing this burning need.

🧠An architect, a data scientist, a midwife, an epidemiologist, an urban public health expert, a physiologist, and a climatologist - they are all coming together to help heat action heroes everywhere deliver more effective solutions now.

šŸŒ The Heat Science Hotline Board grounds guidance to ā€œcallersā€ in real-world experience, with experts who have delivered solutions on six continents.

From cooling strategies to early warning systems, from policy design to implementation, the Heat Science Hotline translates existing, intersecting evidence and peer-reviewed science into clear, usable guidance.

The Hotline experts will not generate new science but will identify research needs along the way.

When temperatures rise, resilience does not appear overnight. It is built.

Built by teams testing what works on the ground.
Built by research that strengthens the evidence.
Built by partnerships that carry solutions across cities.
Built by communication that keeps heat on the global agenda.

This is the team powering HERA’s mission in a hotter world.

Today, on International Women’s Day - we redouble our commitment to our mission - to protect the health, income, and dignity of women on the frontlines of extreme heat. Part of that is our new name - HERA

HERA is more than a name—it is a statement. Heat Resilience Action—and Her Action—because women are leading in this defining Heat Era. It honors the female hero, means ā€œloveā€ and ā€œdiamondā€ across cultures, and evokes Hera, guardian of women—embodying strength and protection.

Across cities and communities, women in informal work are living and working in increasing inequality and intensifying extreme heat. šŸŒ”ļø

They adjust their work hours.
They prioritize their children.
They keep households running and local economies moving — even as temperatures rise.

HERA works closely with local organizations and women across the hottest parts of the world to co-create and deliver heat solutions.

On this special , we are proud to share that through our partnership with the Howden Foundation, the Self Employed Women's Association-SEWA, and other partners, women workers in India have co-designed and now access direct cash assistance, parametric insurance, and heat-health warnings and education to support their livelihoods through extreme heat events. šŸ¤

This beautiful short film highlights the strength, resilience, and leadership of these and all women working on the frontlines of extreme heat. šŸ’ŖšŸ½

The heat era is no longer approaching.

It is already here and shaping how communities live, work, and survive.

For millions of women in dense urban neighbourhoods, extreme heat is not just an environmental issue — it is a daily health risk, a workplace hazard, and a threat to income stability.

HERA was built for this reality.

By combining climate science, financial protection, and community-driven solutions, HERA focuses on one of the most urgent and under-addressed climate challenges of our time: extreme heat in urban environments.

Because resilience cannot begin after loss.

It must be built into the systems that protect livelihoods before temperatures cross dangerous limits.

This is the work ahead.
And this is what HERA is built for.

Today, we step forward as HERA.

A name shaped by the realities of a hotter world, and the strength of the women facing it every day.

This is more than a visual change. It reflects a sharper focus on extreme heat and the communities living through it.

The temperature is rising.
So is our response.

Extreme heat is a burning force reshaping communities, health, and livelihoods. Especially for women in informal work who carry families and local economies on their backs.

We have been in the field. We have seen the shift.

Now we are shifting too.

A stronger name. A sharper voice. Built for a hotter world.

Stay tuned.
