Troop 44 aims to build a well rounded scout through encouraging advancement, service to community, local camping outings, merit badge achievement, and fostering personal growth and responsibility. Boys grow and learn a variety of skills by taking part in many diverse scouting activities rather than focused on one particular discipline. We hold troop meetings weekly; Troop PLC after each outing, an

d monthly Troop Committee meetings. We look forward to new scouts joining, making them feel that they are welcome contributors. Our 2011 camping destinations have included Bird Boys Fundraiser, CAMPOREE at Camp Bovay, and Orienteering and Fishing at Raondo Ranch near Columbus, TX. We attended Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch for summer camp with 19 base campers and four Mountain Man high adventurers. Our plans are to go to WTSE, backpacking, climbing, and have a family campout for the remainder of 2011. We participate in district events like Camporee, Webelos to Scout Exposition, and monthly Roundtable. registration fees are collected annually in December. 50ยข dues are collected each meeting by the Patrol Leader and turned into the Scribe. One half of dues and a good bit of fund raising effort monies go into individual scout accounts which help pay for summer camp fees, individual scout camping equipment, i.e. backpacks, and activity fees. For troop meetings, boys need to attend regularly, be on time, bring their Boy Scout handbook and wear their uniform. Uniform guidelines are outlined in the Troop by-laws. We regularly recite the Pledge of Allegiance, Scout Oath, and Scout Law. The Scout Slogan and Motto are also learned and practiced. For camping, scouts need their own mess kit, knife/fork/spoon, bedroll (sleeping bag), chair, sleeping pad, and a cup. For summer camp, scouts will need a cot and a foot locker. Prior to a camping trip, scouts plan their meals/menu and either divide the menu for each scout to bring parts of the menu or one scout is designated to get the chow. Costs for food will be distributed between patrol members who are going to camp. We encourage parent participation in troop committee and participation in various troop helper activities. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer as outing participants to help with transport and for an opportunity to spend some quality time with your son. Parents interested in leadership positions attend district training offered bi-annually. If interested, please ask about how you can help with our Troop Committee functions and merit badge counseling! Directions to meeting place:
