At 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧, our 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 is here to walk alongside you.

While we are not attorneys, we help guide survivors through the process of filing for a 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 (𝐓𝐏𝐎) — explaining paperwork, helping you understand what to expect, and providing support every step of the way. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

And our support doesn’t stop at shelter.

We also offer 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 for survivors who may not need emergency housing but still need safety planning, resources, referrals, court accompaniment, and ongoing support. Our goal is to help you stay safe, informed, and empowered — wherever you are in your journey.

February is 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, and it’s important to talk about what abuse can look like in teen relationships — especially when it shows up through phones and social media.

For teens, red flags often start digitally:
• Constant messages demanding immediate replies
• Tracking your location
• Expecting passwords or reading your messages
• Getting angry if you don’t check in
• Asking, “Why aren’t you answering?” over and over

This isn’t protection.
This isn’t passion.
This is 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, respect, and boundaries — not monitoring and pressure.

Teens deserve relationships where they feel safe, not stressed. If you’re a parent, mentor, or friend, start the conversation. If you’re a teen and something feels off, trust your instincts and talk to someone you trust.

Shame is powerful. It tells teens to stay quiet. To hide. To pretend everything is fine.

During 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 – 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, we want to talk about the role shame can play in unhealthy relationships.

Teens may feel embarrassed to admit something doesn’t feel right.
They may downplay red flags.
They may worry no one will believe them.
They may even feel ashamed to talk about a relationship that seems good on the outside but feels confusing on the inside.

Shame keeps young people silent.
But silence is where unhealthy patterns grow.

Healing begins in 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬.
When teens are heard without judgment.
When their feelings are validated.
When they are reminded that questioning behavior, setting boundaries, and asking for help are signs of strength — not weakness.

Let’s create spaces where teens know:

❤️ It’s okay to ask, “Is this normal?”
❤️ It’s okay to trust your instincts.

𝑭𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝑻𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑫𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑽𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉, and one of the warning signs we want young people to understand is 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Love bombing isn’t just “being romantic.” It can look like constant texts, over-the-top gifts, rushing the relationship, or demanding all of someone’s time and attention. At first it may feel flattering, but it’s often used to gain control and create emotional dependence.

Healthy relationships grow with respect, boundaries, and trust—not pressure, guilt, or overwhelm.

If you or someone you know feels uncomfortable, pressured, or unable to say “no” in a relationship, it may be time to talk to a trusted adult or reach out for help. You deserve to feel safe, respected, and valued.

At Family Haven, we believe prevention starts with education. That’s why we offer 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠, a program we bring into 8th and 9th grade health classes across Forsyth County. Through Date Strong, students learn what healthy relationships look like, how to recognize warning signs, and how to build respect, communication, and boundaries into their dating lives.

Dating should be a fun and positive part of growing up—but many teens don’t realize when behaviors cross the line into control or abuse. By starting these conversations early, we can help prevent domestic violence before it ever begins.
