The injured loon is still hanging out by the sand bar/golf course docks. Please be cautious when on the lake, our loon cannot dive.

BOATERS: please be alert for an injured loon on Beaver Dam Lake near the golf course boat landing and narrows. A dedicated resident has been in touch with a few wildlife rehabbers today and after viewing our video and description of 45 minutes of behavior, they believe that the loon has a ruptured air sac, meaning it cannot dive down for food or defend itself. The loon can only float on its side, exposing its white belly and a dangling leg. Injured loons like this will most likely not leave the area where it was injured, and might even beach itself. There will be an attempt to find and heal this loon by rehabbers. Without help, this loon will likely not make it, so please keep an eye out. If there are more sightings on the lake or on shore, please reach out to Linda, Loon Rescue, Inc., 715-966-5415, so they are able to provide safe rescue and treat the bird.
