As most everyone knows by now, our rescue suffered a severe tragedy this week.
We received in our load of hay (72 rolls) for all the animals at the rescue to get through the rest of the hay feeding season and have a supply for the paddock horses.

In the blink of an eye we lost everything to a fire that broke out in the hay barn.
It has been a two day long process of trying to get the fire manageable, with so many rolls it was definitely not just going to (go out) it will continue to smolder for days for comes.

A huge thank you to the amazing first responders!
We are so incredibly blessed for the love and outreach we have received over these last few days, everyone has been so supportive or helping in any way they can through sharing our story, donating to help us rebuild and finding hay as we went from having more than enough to feed everyone to losing it.

This incredible tragedy was absolutely no one’s fault.
The fire chief is up in the air with what could have happened but his biggest belief is sparks from equipment coming in and out with high winds could have been the perfect combo, we also know spontaneously combustion is on the table which though rare, does and can happen to absolutely anyone with all the right conditions. I agree with our fire chief and know in my heart this was all a freak act of nature that absolutely none of us could have prevented.
Bad things happen sometimes.. we can’t focus on the why and how when we have so much work to do to rebuild.

With the barn being older (over 30 years old and insured for the cost of building it at that time) obviously insurance won’t be covering much of the cost it will be to rebuild in todays time, trust me we’ve called.

If you would like to help please consider donating, sharing or supporting today.

I have followers all the time ask “How do you choose?”. Our rescue can only take as many as we have room and time for. (We want to make sure we have the space and available time to give them the proper care) At this time we have room for three more babies.

How would you choose…..

Listening to them calling out as we walk by is pure torment.

We cannot imagine the horrors they’ve been through, but then we don’t have to, unfortunately their scars (both physical and mental) tell us what they’ve been through.

One of the hardest things at the sale barn is walking out without taking all the others. I hear their cries as we walk by and it breaks my heart, but unfortunately our rescue knows our limits.

We currently have room for three new rescues, therefore we will be going to multiple auctions this week to see if there are any horses that need us.

Horses at these auctions range from $400-$700 slaughter price. (Meat price) Help us save a few of these babies from being shipped to the border, a Bail Site or even to another dirty sale barn.

Oh and did I mention some low life thought it was a good idea to breed this baby in her condition then dump her at the sale barn. 🤦🏼‍♀️.

The end of this video is for you if you’re watching, you crappy person.

Help us save a few

Last year I went to look at a gelding needing some attention. When I arrived, I found several other horses needing a lot of attention. Although they weren’t as thin as some that come in to the farm, their feet were terrible, they all looked stressed, a few had upper respiratory issues and one was too far gone to recover

With the help of some amazing donors we were able to save this mom and filly

Thursday after a busy morning, Santera and I did adoption follow up visits. Yalllllll this baby grew up so beautiful and so well mannered, just like her momma.

Thank all of you that helped make this happen.

A couple of months ago mom and dad went to a small animal auction. This girl was going in circles, her eyes had ulcers on them and she could hardly breathe.

We treated her as soon as we got back to the rescue , then had a vet see her the following Tuesday. We are happy to announce she has completely recovered.

Annnnnd found a family to love.

Happy Adoption Day.

We have our feed mixed and grounded to a powder, then we soak the powder to a soup. Talking about something that will stick to their ribs, this is only one month.

Nooooooo this isn’t an advertisement for the feed or the feed mill. This is just one example of how important the right diet is.

We still need $712 to cover yesterday’s check, please consider helping us make a difference in these babies lives.

Meet Hazel.

A few years ago during Covid

Hazel came to us as an owner surrender.
I was working a birthday party one Saturday morning when a truck pulling a trailer pulled in. A small elderly lady got out of the truck and walked toward us. She introduced herself, then started to cry.

I ask her what was wrong, she said she had a horse she wanted to leave with me. She explained she had lost her job some time ago and was having trouble feeding the horse or getting her the care she needed. I patted her hand and walked to the back of the trailer.

There I seen a frail emaciated horse. We quickly unloaded her, while her elderly owner stood there crying uncontrollably. “See she looks horrible” the lady said. “Can you save her?”

My reply “I will do everything I can”.

The lady continued to cry “I didn’t even know there were places like this, where I could bring her for help” Although I wish she would have brought her sooner, I couldn’t help it, my heart hurt watching her cry as she said goodbye.

I have several ask about the previous owners of some of the horses. It’s so hard to say something about a previous owner, because it’s too easy to go down the rabbit hole of who did what and placing blame, then emotions run high and before you know it, all your time is spent being mad and upset.

I’m just gonna tell you like my momma told me “You have to pick your battles. Don’t use your precious energy on one thing, while you loose sight of something bigger” Therefore I choose to put my energy into helping babies just like this one..

Before and after one month of proper care, can you imagine what she will look like next month.

When we get these babies in, we never expect anything, but are excited with each small improvement.

We have our feed mixed at the local feed mill, then have them grind it to a powder. Our feed bill this week was $842.99 Any help would be appreciated more than you can imagine.

If you have 4 minutes and 24 seconds. You can come along on our Thursday rescue.

When we arrived to pick up a very emaciated Mustang, we found a family. We worked with the owner and got her to agree to let us take the “whole family” as well as some of their friends.

(Called the bank to transfer money from dad 😂)

……then raised the funds to pay him back.

Thank you all for helping make the rescue of this family a success ❤️.

Thoughts on Mustang ?

Side note: Nooooo I didn’t leave the gate open (dad taught me better) we have a wide cattle gap they won’t cross (well except a few that think they are Hunter Jumper horses. lol.
