About Us

Since 1961 the Cumberland / North Yarmouth Lions Club has served the two communities by providing eyeglass service, sponsoring Greely scholarships, supporting and sponsoring local scout troops, making durable medical equipment available, delivering poinsettias to elderly at Christmas time, sponsoring Greely delegates to Boys and Girls State, the local Food Pantry, and spearheading the an

nual Christmas Tree lighting / Santa visit event in the Center. Other recipients are the Prince Memorial Library, Meals on Wheels, Iris Network, Opportunity Farm, Camp Sunshine, Camp Susan Curtis, and the Ronald McDonald House. In 1987 the club organized a scholarship fund aimed at granting scholarships to Greely High School seniors and graduates who are continuing their education. Over the years close to $217,000 has been awarded. All the money to accomplish these things comes from our local Lions fundraisers: the Lions food booth at the Cumberland Fair, the annual citrus sale, the Cabin Fever dinner in March, apple pie sales ( proceeds to Food Pantry), and a food booth at Twin Brook events. We count on the people of Cumberland and North Yarmouth to support these fundraisers.

At our February 16th, 2026 meeting, our guest speaker was Kelly Greenlee from the Prince Memorial Library (PML) in Cumberland. where she is the Community Outreach Librarian.📚

Kelly spoke about the many interesting and fun things happening at the library and reminded all that the current library card is bright yellow, so update yours.

PML has joined a statewide network of approx. 60 libraries, so they can get access to any and all needed books. They also offer museum passes, park passes, and Botanical Gardens
Passes.

The Library has a lending closet for things you only use occasionally like an upholstery steamer, metal detector, laser level and thermal camera. These are for local residents only.

Their collection of books, DVDs and things is more than 47,344 items. The library is a well used resource. Last Saturday saw 400 visitors to library and last year saw 61,855 visitors! WOW!🤩

In 2025 PML hosted 1287 events, with 17,448 people attending them. They also offer community bingo! Kelly encouraged folks to look also into their popular twice a year “repair fairs”.

Thank you Kelly!!😎

Also at our meeting a number of Lions members received their Chevrons for years for membership. But a very special honor went to Lion Don Drew for 65 Years of Membership!! 🥰 Don was one of the founders of our Cumberland/North Yarmouth Lions Club!!! 🥳You are amazing Don!!🤩
