Join DxE LA + Animal Victory Meetup + The Simple Heart for lunch with Dean Wyrzkowski, who was arrested by riot police for leading efforts to rescue beagles from Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Dane County, WI. The court called Dean “dangerous” for nonviolently trying to save criminally abused dogs. Dean and his co-defendants are facing 31 years in prison — all because they volunteered to save beagles from criminal abuse at Ridglan Farms.

Dean is excited to go to trial because this case gives the defendants a chance to argue in court that animals have legal rights — including the right to be rescued from abuse. Dean is going up against the biomedical industry, which does tens of billions of dollars of business in Dane County — including through animal testing at the University of Wisconsin. They already put out a press release calling the defendants terrorists who should be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Hosted by , this talk will go into Dean’s animal rights journey from a member of DxE in college, to running ’s campaign for Berkeley mayor, to co-founding with Wayne.

Animal rescuer Sally Zito will provide an update after recently being charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor with three other defendants for rescuing Phoebe and Celia, two baby goats who were sick with respiratory infections on a Meyenberg goat dairy. The Kings County DA has decided to use its resources not to protect the goats still suffering from neglect and cruelty, but to prosecute the compassionate individuals who tried to stop it.

That’s what we call bleating hearts! DxE LA activists recently brought goats to the highly anticipated grand opening of ’s Glendale store.

The company claims to be an ethical retailer, but DxE investigations are finding a growing list of factory farmed products on its shelves. Meyenberg Goat Milk is among them.

Unfortunately, we’ve reached out to the company multiple times to address this, but it keeps ignoring us and seems content to continue stocking such items. So we’ve been escalating to store disruptions.

Meanwhile, four DxE activists — Carla, Taj, Joe, and Sally — went to their 5/19 preliminary hearing in Kings County, where they face two felonies and a misdemeanor for rescuing sick baby goats from a cruel Meyenberg supplier, Vera Goat Dairy.

The defendants will plead not guilty on 6/3, and DxE will continue to monitor Erewhon’s expansion so it can keep the company accountable and let its customers know that Erewhon isn’t the trustworthy brand that it claims to be.

If Erewhon’s dishonesty and these systemic injustices infuriate you, here’s what you can do:
- Like, share, and comment on this post
- Tell Erewhon you think it’s wrong to stock factory farmed products
- Sign the letter at RightToRescue.com to ask Kings County authorities to prosecute animal abuse, not animal rescue

We’ve been whipping through LA’s vegan restaurants with three double-billed New Food Fridays in a row! We shared some tacos with Starla the chicken at Doomie’s Home Cooking and Next Mex in March, had some seaside sunset sushi from Sushi Vegan and Thai Vegan in April, and enjoyed a decadent selection of pastries from ID-Eclair and La Cave in May 🌮🍱🥐 Stay tuned for our next delicious outing in June! 🌱

Four activists. Two sick baby goats. One dairy that doesn’t want you to see inside.

Join us Tuesday, 5/19 at 12:45 PM at the Kings County Superior Court for the preliminary hearing on yet another “crime” of compassion.

DxE investigations found an illegal goat “graveyard” at the so-called “Certified Humane” Vera Goat Dairy, which supplies to Meyenberg, the country’s largest goat milk company.

The regional water board cited the dairy in 2021 for this disposal of goat remains — just the latest of several enforcement actions going back to 2013. A necropsy report of two deceased goats found evidence of coccidia parasites, “marked emaciation,” no fat reserves, and muscle atrophy, suggesting the babies might have starved to death.

After documenting numerous violations of California Penal Code 597, an attorney on DxE’s legal team repeatedly reported these findings to authorities, who failed to address the cruelty and the threats to the community’s water and public health. This systemic negligence deserved immediate action.

Enter four animal rights activists — Carla, Taj, Sally, and Joe — who openly rescued two sick and dying baby goats — Phoebe and Celia — from the dairy about a year ago, much like someone would rescue a dog from a hot car. The activists were arrested and are currently facing two felonies and a misdemeanor.

If you’re outraged by these developments, you can do the following:
- show your support in person this Tuesday
- share, like, and/or comment on this post
- visit RightToRescue.com to sign the open letter to Kings County District Attorney Sarah Hacker urging her to prosecute the animal abusers, not the animal rescuers

Check these magical photos from part 2 of DxE LA’s Paint & Potluck Volunteer Day, where we finished painting the chicken coops! ☀️🐔🐷

We appreciate and everyone who donated their time and energy this past weekend. A couple new faces joined the effort, and the energy was nothing short of inspiring.

The plant-based potluck was followed by some quality time with goats, sheep, and pigs before folks went to the upper area to finish where we left off. 🫟

The volunteers divided up rollers, brushes, and paint cans to set upon refreshing the white walls and applying a fresh coat of inviting pink to both doors — our rescued friends deserve a fancy home after all.

Between brushstrokes and chatter, people came and went as their availability allowed while the beautiful birds bobbed around happily.

By the late afternoon, Love Always had two beautifully painted coops. DxE LA was proud to contribute to one of its favorite spots. Community and compassion go hand-in-hand. 🤝
