Images from The Vegan Joint Celebration Buffet this past Saturday.

Thanks to Plant Based Treaty Los Angeles SoCal VegFest and most of all, Hnoi and The Vegan Joint for 20 years of goodwill and preparing delicious plant-based options.

Throughout the evening, we saw dozens of community members come through and sift through TVJ’s jaw-dropping buffet. Thai iced tea flowed freely and plates were piled high with chickun satay, garlic beef chow mein, tofu yellow curry, eggrolls & more.

Later on, organizers paused the conversation for a brief presentation during which some patrons expressed their love and admiration for Hnoi. The restauranteur-activist was nothing but gracious despite the difficult circumstances leading to the business’ shuttering. Before cake was served, Hnoi and her friends made it clear that the evening did not just mark an ending, but the opening of a new chapter.

Thanks to all who came out to the Lazy Acres (Los Feliz, CA) protest for DxE’s statewide weekend of action urging the grocery chain to drop Meyenberg Goat Milk products due to documented cruelty at one of its dairy suppliers, Vera Goat Dairy.

Protesters gathered at the front entrance and flanked each side with megaphones and signs. Eventually the chanting stopped and the protestors silently arranged themselves into a pile on the ground while a lone drumbeat played, in memory and honor of the untold number of mother and baby goats whose bodies were thrown into an illegal dead pile at the dairy.

The business had armed security guards ready and standing by waiting for our arrival. I wonder what they thought we would be doing there. Do you think they may have considered the goat victims of Meyenberg Goat Milk during our “die in” at the front entrance? Let’s hope so. And let’s hope they do the right thing by dropping this cruel supplier.

‼️TW: Extreme confinement

1st Slide: Group photo from at The Mustard Seed in Cerritos.

Slides 2-6: Images of caged hens from last Friday’s vigil at Dakao Poultry, organized by DxE and OC Animal Save.

New Food Friday is our monthly gathering when we meet up at a business. As you can see, we had a very strong showing.

After dinner, some of us went to the vigil at the live chicken slaughterhouses in Midway City to bear witness to hundreds of chickens being trucked to their fates.

These animals are trucked 100+ miles without any space to maneuver or access to food and water. Attendees witnessed two deliveries that evening.

Organizers say the drivers have additional drops in Long Beach and Los Angeles. On that night, this represented around 3000 animals awaiting a “humane” slaughter the following day.

Community gatherings and animal vigils are powerful ways to share animal rights with our circle. For our next event, consider bringing a friend who you think would respond to our programming. We show up for the victims. Always.

Thanks to all who came to The Mustard Seed and everyone who went to the vigil to bear witness.

Sally has an announcement.

Thank you, Erewhon. But Sally and three other activists are still facing multiple felonies for rescuing baby goats from Vera last year.

Vera supplies the nation’s largest goat milk producer, Meyenberg Dairy. Inside Vera, investigators documented mothers with engorged and distended teats, animals with respiratory infections, and violations of both “Certified Humane” standards and state animal cruelty laws.

Tell the Kings County DA to stop prosecuting compassion. And join us tomorrow as we target Lazy Acres, another upscale grocer that still sells Meyenberg products.

Thanks to everyone who has called Lazy Acres this week to let them know about dead and dying goats on Meyenberg’s factory farm.

The pressure is on. Help us rally in Los Feliz this Saturday @ 11am as we push Lazy Acres to stand against animal cruelty by no longer purchasing Meyenberg Goat Milk products.

Together, Lazy Acres and “sister store” Bristol Farms have 20 locations in Southern California. It markets itself on “health, wellness, and wholesome food,” but the dead piles at Meyenberg’s Vera Goat Dairy are anything but wholesome.

On Saturday morning we plan to chant, hold signs, speak out, and coordinate a die-in with demonstrators in front of the entrance to evoke the countless mother and baby goats that Meyenberg has resigned to its illegal graveyards. We encourage black clothing and funeral attire.

Four DxE activists are currently facing 6.5 years for the “crime” of rescuing the baby goats, Phoebe and Celia. Compassion is not a crime. Prosecute animal cruelty— not the rescuers who are trying to make a difference.

Lazy Acres— show California and your customers that your values mean something. Cut ties with Meyenberg.

TAKE ACTION: Call the Lazy Acres Headquarters at (310) 233-4700 to demand that they cut ties with Meyenberg. You can leave a voicemail or tell the receptionist that you’d like to leave a message for Adam Caldecott, CEO of Lazy Acres (sample script below).

BACKGROUND:

In 2025, animal cruelty investigators exposed an illegal mass grave of dead mother and baby goats at a "Certified Humane" goat dairy that supplies to Meyenberg, the largest goat milk producer in the U.S.

Erewhon, LA's luxury grocer, recently cut ties with Meyenberg after a protest campaign led by DxE Los Angeles, and now DxE Los Angeles, DxE San Diego, and DxE Orange County are uniting to ask that Lazy Acres do the same.

Organizers have already delivered letters to Lazy Acres locations and to the CEO, but they have received no response. It's time to make sure Lazy Acres hears from you. Thank you on behalf of the thousands of goats currently suffering at the Meyenberg factory farm that DxE exposed. And thank you on behalf of the four animal rescuers currently facing felony charges for exposing the abuse and rescuing Phoebe and Celia.

You can use the below script exactly as it is, or put it into your own words (more instructions at dxe.io/LazyAcres ).

LIVE MESSAGE SCRIPT:

I’m calling to urge Adam Caldecott, as CEO of Lazy Acres, to immediately drop all Meyenberg goat milk products due to ongoing animal cruelty and environmental violations at Vera Goat Dairy, a factory farm producer for Meyenberg Goat Milk.

VOICEMAIL SCRIPT:

Hello... My name is [Your Name], and I’m calling to urge Adam Caldecott, as CEO of Lazy Acres, to immediately drop all Meyenberg goat milk products due to ongoing animal cruelty and environmental violations at Vera Goat Dairy, a factory farm producer for Meyenberg Goat Milk.

In 2025, an investigation into Meyenberg-supplier, Vera Goat Dairy in Stratford, California revealed dozens of dead mother and baby goats regularly being dumped into an illegal dead pile on the property.

Necropsy testing of two deceased baby goats who investigators collected from the dead pile found parasites, bacterial bronchopneumonia, most likely caused by E-coli, and marked emaciation with no fat reserves and severe muscle atrophy, suggesting that baby goats may have starved to death.

Last month, the luxury chain Erewhon dropped Meyenberg products from all of their locations in response to these reports.

I believe your company’s values do not align with Meyenberg’s practices. Following Erewhon’s recent commitment to ethics, public health, and animal welfare, I urge you to reaffirm your values for your customers by refusing to sell Meyenberg products in your stores.

As CEO, you have the power to do this and a responsibility to your customers to uphold your stated values.

Thank you for your time. I hope you will take swift and meaningful action.
