CASA of McHenry County

CASA of McHenry County Change a Child's Story! About National CASA Association
In 1977, a Seattle Judge conceived of the idea of volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children.

Out of this idea, the first CASA program was created. Today there are more than 900 CASA programs nationwide with 54,000 volunteers serving over 250,000 abused and neglected children. Volunteers are appointed by a judge and assigned to one case at a time, serving as an independent voice for abused and neglected children in court. Volunteers believe every child deserves to grow up in a safe and permanent home and they stay with a case until this goal is achieved.

β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’› In observance of Juneteenth, the CASA office is closed today.

Today we honor Freedom Day β€” June 19, 1865 β€” and reflect on the significance of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.

The office will reopen Monday as we continue our work supporting children and families in our community.

At CASA of McHenry County, we believe in the power of one.

One child. One Advocate. One consistent, caring adult who shows up during one of the most uncertain times in a child’s life.

But that impact never stays in one place.

It ripples.

A CASA Advocate’s support can reach foster parents, siblings, teachers, caseworkers, courtrooms, friendships, and a child’s future. One donor, sponsor, business, or volunteer can also create waves of change for children in foster care.

This month, we are launching our new blog series: The Ripple Effect β€” sharing how one act of support can grow into lasting impact.

Read June’s blog post and be part of the ripple: https://casamchenrycounty.org/june2026blog/

We are proud to recognize Cathy Talluto as our Advocate of the month!

Cathy has been a CASA advocate since 2021 and
is currently serving on a case involving three siblings, a toddler, a pre-teen, and an older youth. She joined the case in the middle of a difficult and complicated journey, stepping in during a time when the family needed consistency and support.

Like many cases, this one has come with its share of challenges. The placement has struggled with the length of the process, the older youth was not interested in having a CASA and was often difficult to schedule visits with, and Cathy worked patiently to build a connection with a toddler who has special needs. Through it all, she continued to show up.

What stands out most about Cathy is her steady presence. Even though the older youth regularly told Cathy she didn’t want a CASA, their conversations often lasted much longer than expected. When there was an unexpected change in caseworkers, it was Cathy the youth reached out to.

Cathy has been a trusted listener, a consistent support, and a strong advocate for this family. She has taken the time to hear concerns, identify gaps, and speak up when action was needed. Her calm approach and dedication have helped bring stability during a time of uncertainty.

Thank you, Cathy, for your unwavering commitment to the children and families you serve. Your patience, compassion, and persistence make a lasting difference, and we are grateful to have you as part of our CASA community.
