THANK YOU to everyone that came out to the Crown Point Library to attend our New Leash on Life Community Forum tonight! Representatives and volunteers from a variety of animal welfare organizations, code enforcement officers, and other industry professionals gathered for a fantastic sharing of information! Lots of good connections made! Lots of good ideas and feedback shared!
A big thanks also goes out to everyone who took the time to complete our online survey!

Tuesday, September 8th at 6pm we will be going before the Crown Point City Council to receive our variance of use to build New Leash on Life. If we’re going to overcome those ignorant to our mission & purpose, we need YOU to SPEAK UP & SHOW UP!

Why 12430 S Court Street?
➡️We mesh with the existing nonprofit corridor
➡️Potential collaborations with St. Jude House, In-Pact, & Crown Point Community Foundation

➡️Designed for the community
➡️Modern, humane, and attractive facility planned as a community resource
➡️New Leash on Life prioritizes animal welfare, enrichment, and fear free design.
Our focus is high adoption rates, community programs (education, low-cost services, respite support), volunteer engagement, and public perception.
➡️Central, pleasant community location supports these goals while managing noise through design (soundproofing, layout, enrichment) rather than extreme isolation.
These recommendations come from veterinary shelter medicine programs, national animal welfare organizations’ technical guidelines, and specialized architects/engineers rather than informal opinion.
➡️Isolated industrial or high-noise highway-adjacent sites undermine accessibility, reduce spontaneous visits, increase operational challenges, and reinforce outdated “pound” stereotypes.

We’ve looked at other sites. We’ve faced space constraints, hydrological issues, utility challenges, and more.

THIS is our chance to build the best Pet Adoption and Resource Center IN Crown Point, FOR Crown Point (& surrounding communities) in a space that makes sense and will help our animals and communities thrive!
