Last night at FurBall Crowley, we had the privilege of presenting an award that means so much more than simply being Best in Show.

The Rich Hughes Best in Show Award was created in memory of a man whose heart for this community was extraordinary. Rich believed in showing up, helping others, and making Crowley a better place—not for recognition, but simply because it was the right thing to do.

His legacy reminds us that the greatest impact we leave behind is found in the lives we touch, the people we help, and the causes we choose to champion.

And I can’t think of a more fitting place to honor that legacy than the Crowley FurBall—an event built around compassion, generosity, and giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.

Rich may no longer be standing here with us, but his spirit, his kindness, and the difference he made in this community are still very much present.

So, with great pride and with Rich in our hearts, members of the Crowley Accessibility Service for the Handicap Board presented the 2026 Rich Hughes Best in Show Award! Congratulations—and may this award always serve as a reminder of a truly remarkable man and a legacy that continues to make a difference!

A massive THANK YOU to the incredible members of the Knights of Columbus Council #5499 right here in Crowley, Louisiana! 💙🤝
​Earlier this month, they hosted an amazing charity bingo night dedicated entirely to Crowley Accessibility Support for the Handicap, raising vital funds to help us continue our mission of a Handicap Wheelchair Accessible Playground for Handicap and autistic children of our community. If that wasn’t generous enough, the council also added an extra donation of their own to support our cause!
​We are deeply touched by your hospitality, hard work, and dedication to making our community a more accessible and inclusive place for everyone. Events like this take a village, and we are so proud to have supporters like you in our corner.

​K.C.’s set Aug. 3 Bingo to benefit CASH project
​Leah Hoffpauir, president of Crowley Accessibility Support for the Handicap (CASH), and Jillian Habetz, vice president / secretary, spoke at a recent Crowley Knights of Columbus #5499 officers meeting about the organization’s commitment to bring an ADA-accessible, wheelchair-friendly playground to Crowley.
​The playground will provide an inclusive, safe space where children of all abilities can play together without barriers!
​Though it will be built in Crowley, the playground will serve over 1,000 children and their families throughout Acadia Parish.
​After the presentation, the Crowley Knights of Columbus made a monetary donation to CASH and will host a special bingo session on Monday, August 3, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting CASH.

🚨Mark your Calendars—August 3!🚨

The Crowley Knights of Columbus is proud to announce that we are hosting a very special bingo session on Monday, August 3! We will be partnering with Crowley Accessibility Support for the Handicap, CASH, to benefit their “Play Without Limits” project.

CASH is working to build an ADA accessible, wheelchair friendly playground, that will provide an inclusive, safe space where children of all abilities can play together without barriers! Though it will be built in Crowley, the playground will serve over 1,000 children and their families throughout Acadia Parish.

The Crowley Knights of Columbus is proud to get behind this project by donating 100% of the bingo proceeds from the August 3 session to CASH! Help us to pack the hall and make it our biggest night yet! Every player helps raise money for this incredible project and the children in our community.

We regret to inform that one of our dear volunteers & CASH President & Founder Leah’s father has passed. We will forever cherish the service, support, & kindness bestowed upon our project by Mr Mark Hoffpauir. Please keep the Hoffpauir family in your prayers this week & in the future.🙏💐

We are truly honored that this project is receiving the attention, thoughtful discussion, and careful discernment it deserves. This project was never intended to divide, but rather to promote inclusivity, service, and the utmost consideration for accommodating individuals with special needs. It was always envisioned as something positive that brings our community together and provides enjoyment for families throughout Acadia Parish.

The C.A.S.H. Board has met extensively with our Council members and Mayor to discuss this project, and everyone involved is working diligently to find a solution that best serves the people of Crowley while taking every suggestion to heart. While the final location has yet to be determined, we encourage continued support of our fundraising efforts.

The opportunity to unite as a community and work together to provide this incredible resource for the more than 1,000 children with disabilities in Acadia Parish is truly inspiring. Thank you to everyone who spoke tonight and shared their thoughts. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with you as we move forward together. ❤️ (Go to 46:00)

As most of you know i am the Treasurer of the C.A.S.H. ORGANIZATION (Crowley Accessibility Support for the Handicap). For the past year our organization has been working hard at fundraising to meet the financial goals that are needed to build an ADA Compliant Wheelchair Accessible Playground for Handicap and Autistic children of our community! We are at the stage of finalizing and securing the location and we will be meeting with the mayor and city council members at the next city council meeting on June 16th. We have started a PETITION to find out who SUPPORTS OR OPPOSES the location within Levy Park in Crowley Louisiana. We want your FEEDBACK.
