President Trump administration’s latest immigration policies are increasingly sidelining foreign-born physicians, significantly worsening the existing medical staff shortage across the United States. By implementing stricter visa regulations and blocking doctors from 39 countries from practicing at U.S. hospitals, the policy has sparked widespread alarm among medical professionals and patients alike. This shift is particularly impacting rural and underserved urban areas that rely heavily on international medical graduates to fill essential healthcare gaps, raising fears of a broader crisis in patient care.

Physicians from 39 countries are being pushed out of U.S. hospitals as a policy blocks their ability to work.

Senator Saud Anwar issued a press release today after learning that Trinity Health has issued a worker notice impacting over 100 physicians in Connecticut, posing a direct risk to patient care across our state. He urged them to reconsider this decision. Trinity intends to have physicians report to a Californian company, potentially compromising patient care and overall health coverage in our state. This is a risk citizens if Connecticut cannot afford to take.
