Millions of people across Illinois have dangerous PFAS chemicals in their water. Time is running out to make your voice heard! The last day to submit a public comment is December 7th. Please email [email protected] with the Subject: IPCB R2022-018.

The effects of these chemicals are numerous, including various cancers, immune system suppression, reduction in antibodies’ responses to vaccines, decreased infectious disease resistance, decreased vaccination response in children, and birth defects. The Illinois Pollution Control Board is just finally CONSIDERING protecting us from theses chemicals. Tell the Pollution Control Board what you think before it is to late.

Examples of what you might say are attached.

The time is running out for us to make our voices heard as the Illinois Pollution Control Board makes its decision about PFAS chemicals in Illinois' groundwater. Right now, at least 3 separate lobbying groups are trying to convince the Illinois Pollution Control Board to not adopt a groundwater standard for PFAS chemicals.

Understanding this - the question is, do we want to encourage the Pollution Control Board to adopt the current proposed rules as soon as possible that the lobbyists are fighting so hard against, OR do we want to push for an even stricter rule that will protect more people in Illinois, but give the lobbyists another argument to stall adoption of the current proposed rules. There are two draft responses in the comments. The first one you can use if you want the Board to pass the proposed rules as soon as possible. The second one is for if you do not think the rules go far enough. Or you can write and submit your own comments. Please submit public comments and spread the word to your friends and families. If you are interested in joining us in person for the December 7th hearing, please email us at [email protected].

Even the water of the largest great lake, Lake Superior, is touched by the harm that forever chemicals bring to our environment.

" In 2019, Wisconsin scientists took samples from fish swimming near the island, considered the spiritual homeland of the Ojibwe. Six fish species had detectable levels of PFAS — and rainbow smelt had an average of seven times the amount of PFAS that were found in the other fish, according to data from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. It was enough to trigger the January 2021 consumption advisory for Wisconsin waters. Two months later, Minnesota and Michigan followed suit with their own advisories."

If this is happening in as big of a body of water as Lake Superior-imagine the effects these chemicals have on water with much higher levels of contamination. If you are interested in learning more about Forever Chemicals in Illinois water-and what you can do about it please join us October 13th, at 6pm. Register here:
