Day 6

Exploring the big city of Cleveland!

In the morning, we visited Case Western Reserve Universityโ€™s Sears think[box], one of the largest makerspaces in the United States ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ. It was even more meaningful to see the Prentke Romich Collaboration floor and know that Barry Romich played a small role in helping bring it to life.

For lunch, we enjoyed sushi ๐Ÿฃ and ramen ๐Ÿœ at a Japanese restaurant before heading downtown for the full tourist experience at the Cleveland Script Sign with the city skyline in the background. We even got lucky enough to see paragliders soaring through the sky ๐Ÿช‚ and photobombing our pictures!

To end a fun-filled day, we stopped at Skoops for some delicious milkshakes ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฅค.

Day 4 was packed with learning, problem-solving, and a little bit of fun! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

The morning was kicked off with a visit to the Wayne County Schools Career Center with CAMO.

Back at the Romich Foundation Makerspace new software was learned while working through troubleshooting for operating their mini CNC router. ๐Ÿ’ปโœจ

After a full day of expanding their skills and gaining new experiences, the day was ended with some friendly pickleball competition! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜„ What a great mix of education, teamwork, and fun!

This week we were excited to learn that three years ago, when the Mini Makerspace was sent to the ETAOO Trade School in Honduras, the school served only about 300 students each year. Now, just three years later, nearly 2,500 students are attending annually.

It is incredible to see how much their program has flourished and the impact hands-on learning opportunities continue to make for students and their future careers. We are proud to have played a small part in supporting their growth and success!

๐ŸŽ‰ Day 3 was a long but fun-filled day for our Honduran friends Joseph and Alex!

We started the morning at the Romich Foundation Makerspace learning about the ShopBot CNC Router ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ before taking a break to attend the Memorial Day parade ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. After enjoying a yummy lunch and ice cream at Dairy Queen ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฆ, we headed to Norwayne Local High School to visit their drone and woodworking departments.

Joseph and Alex had the chance to show off both their goodโ€ฆ and not-so-goodโ€ฆ drone flying skills ๐Ÿ˜‚. Jeff Snure reunited with the guys after three years and helped create a special project featuring the outline of Honduras using the large 4-foot by 8-foot ShopBot CNC Router!

To wrap up the day, we hosted the guys for dinner at the Meshew family home followed by a competitive game of American baseball (wiffle ball) โšพ and, of course, a trip to the giant Walmart ๐Ÿ›’ for a little shopping adventure.

Another amazing day full of learning, laughter, friendship, and new experiences!๐Ÿฉท

Day 1 & 2 of our Honduran friends Joseph and Alex getting to experience the United States have been full of fun and adventure! ๐Ÿ’™

Day 1 was spent exploring Holmes County and experiencing Amish Country. They successfully escaped an escape room, went antiquing, and even tried chocolate-covered pretzels for the first time! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฅจ

Day 2 included a visit to Weaver Custom Woodworking to see some incredible craftsmanship โ€” and unfortunately becoming โ€œlosers of the lottery.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

We are excited for them to continue experiencing new places, people, and opportunities during their time here!

This week, weโ€™re excited to continue training with our Honduran friends! ๐ŸŒŽ

Three years ago, a team from the Romich Foundation Makerspace traveled to Honduras with CAMO, Central American Medical Outreach, to help set up a mini makerspace inside a local trade school.

Now, three years later, the trade school director and another team member are visiting the States to see our operations firsthand and deepen their knowledge of the machines and the makerspace community as a whole.

Weโ€™re so excited to spend the week learning and sharing togetherโ€”stay tuned for updates! ๐Ÿ’กโœจ
