🌻 What’s Happening on the Hill? 🌻

Today started with a mule who has apparently decided that if she puts her head down and refuses to make eye contact, all medical treatments magically disappear.
Miss Mindy is still hanging out in the observation pen. She is eating, drinking, pooping normally, has good gut sounds, and continues her pre-meal rolling routine that keeps me questioning my life choices. When I went in to get her this morning, she immediately dropped her head to the ground because she was convinced I had medicine.
The second she realized we were actually going somewhere, she got up and walked along like she hadn’t just spent five minutes pretending to be a decorative lawn ornament.
🐴 Mule logic.
Meanwhile, Jackson enjoyed a luxury mud spa treatment and spent the afternoon relaxing like a retired millionaire with absolutely no responsibilities. The pigs have once again demonstrated that they have mastered self-care far better than most humans.
🐷 Mud. Sun. Nap. Repeat.
On the home improvement side of things, I successfully repaired one of the garage doors today. This involved a step ladder, metal braces, screws that did not want to cooperate, and my prosthetic foot balanced on top of an air compressor because apparently I enjoy making simple jobs unnecessarily exciting.
Bill attempted to help, which led to one of those moments that hits you right in the heart. The man who used to be able to fix absolutely anything couldn’t quite figure out the braces, even after watching the video. Some days the changes are impossible to ignore.
I may or may not have yelled when he wanted to climb the ladder. In my defense, he wobbles standing on flat ground these days and I really didn’t need a trip to the emergency room added to today’s schedule.
And just when I thought I might get a minute to breathe…

Late last night, like midnight, a family arrived carrying a tiny black kitten.
They had found her near a dumpster where raccoons had been. The other kittens are gone. They saw raccoons around so they are assuming that’s what got the others, Mom hasn’t been seen. This little nugget was the only survivor.
The family posted this baby on our town page and I thought at 1130 at night no one is going to help these poor people or this neonate kitty. The family rolled up at almost 1230 am, and when I say family I mean the whole family. Beside it being late at night, they were so concerned about this baby’s well being. When they saw the welcoming committee at the gate( Woolley and Katie and the gang) they sighed and one said oh I feel so much better now. They knew that baby would get the best care and anything it needed. Annie needed to smell the baby and make sure it’s ok, she loves any babies that come here, and Hudson had to come see the adorable teeny tiny baby and he took it over in the corner and told it a secret, I can’t imagine what that was🤪
So last night, instead of sleep, there is kitten formula, warm blankets, tiny syringes, and a very small black fuzzball named Nugget tucked safely away.
Because apparently the universe heard me thinking I might get a break and immediately said:

“Absolutely not.”

Welcome to Happy Hill, Nugget. 🖤🐾
As always, thank you for following along with our beautiful, exhausting, muddy, heart-filling chaos.

We Need a Little Help Keeping Happy Hill Rolling

If the last few weeks have taught me anything, it’s that no matter what comes our way, we don’t have the option to stop.
The animals still need breakfast. The hay still needs to be hauled, Hooves still need to be trimmed. Water buckets still need to be filled.
Yesterday our equine farrier was here caring for the ponies, donkeys, and mules. Today our traveling pig farrier is coming to work on a few piggy feet and give Woolley Nelson his much-needed summer haircut.
The care never stops, and honestly, neither do we.
But one major project has thrown us into a financial tailspin.
The roof that absolutely had to be done turned into a much bigger project when half the decking underneath needed to be replaced. Add in the dumpster, materials, and all the unexpected expenses, and we’ve found ourselves deeply in the negative.

Dumpster: $800

Materials: approximately $3,800

Roof labor 👀
Roof expenses that grew significantly once the damage was uncovered
We are incredibly grateful the work is getting done, but it has left us scrambling to cover the everyday costs of caring for the animals.
And those costs don’t pause for construction projects.
Feed.
Hay.
Farrier care.
Medical needs.
The daily necessities for dozens of animals who depend on us.
The beautiful thing is that every time life has knocked us sideways, this tribe has shown up. Over the last two weeks, blessings have come from every direction. Some were financial, some were supplies, some were helping hands, and some were simply words of encouragement on the days we needed them most.
We never forget those blessings.

Not for a second.
Today we’re asking for help again.
Our biggest need right now is feed and hay to get us through the rest of the month while we recover from the roof project expenses.
If you’ve ever smiled at one of our pigs, cheered for a rescue, followed along with Hudson’s adventures, laughed at Katie’s antics, or simply believe these animals deserve a safe place to land, please consider helping if you’re able.
No gift is ever too small.

Every bag of feed, every bale of hay, every share, every comment, every prayer matters more than you know.
From all of us here on the hill — two-legged, four-legged, feathered, and furry — thank you for continuing to help us keep going.

We may be struggling, but we’re still moving forward. ❤️🐷🐴🐑

What’s happening in the hill,

Last night, after a long day of worrying about Mindy, hauling hay, medicating animals, and making my final rounds before bed, I found one of our Christmas babies had quietly slipped away.
Jingle was gone.
The hardest part is that there was no warning. Yesterday morning he ate breakfast, wandered around his pen, and spent the day being exactly who he had always been. By nightfall, he had laid down in his favorite nap spot and peacefully passed away in his sleep.
For those newer to our page, Jingle was one of Piggly’s babies. A litter born just before Christmas that stole our hearts from day one. Over the years we lost members of that family, and now only Holly remains.
What makes rescue so beautiful is also what makes it so heartbreaking. We never get forever. We get extra time. Extra meals. Extra sunny days. Extra naps in the straw. Extra years that many of these animals never would have had otherwise.
Jingle was loved every single day of his life.
He was known.
He was safe.
He was fed.
He was home.

Today we have the difficult task of laying him to rest. Because of his size, we need to bring in equipment to dig a grave, and that comes with a cost we weren’t expecting.
If anyone would like to help us cover the expense of bringing in the machine and giving Jingle the peaceful resting place he deserves, we would be incredibly grateful.
As always, thank you for loving these animals alongside us. Thank you for helping us celebrate their lives and carry the heartbreak when we have to say goodbye.
Please keep Holly in your thoughts. Pigs grieve deeply, and she has lost not only her brother, but the last remaining member of the family she has known her entire life, this is the most heartbreaking part for us.

Run free, sweet Jingle. Go find Piggly and silver and Jo Jo and Noel. 🌈🐷💔

🐷💚 $5 FRIDAY 💚🐴

Well friends, it’s been one of those weeks.

The roof needed attention and more supplies than I expected to the tune of over $1000. The router decided it had reached retirement age and quit. Somehow I managed to miss that the internet/cable bill was due and got smacked with a double payment while I was super stressed about the roof, and it was shut off, so now I had to pay over $600 to get it restored. If we didn’t need our phones I would have just left that sit, but our phones dont work at all without the WiFi here because we live in a hole. And we can’t not have phones with Bills medical things we need to be able to call out in emergency.
Then yesterday Moo Baby looked around, decided fences were optional, took down a section of fence, and went on an unauthorized adventure through the woods and through my daughter’s yard.
Apparently my children know me a little too well because they made the executive decision NOT to tell me Moo Baby was loose until AFTER she was safely back where she belonged. As I was not home.
So while I was blissfully unaware, there was apparently a full-scale bovine recovery operation taking place. And my daughter and son managing a 2000 lb grass puppy and Bill thinking he can run around and chase a cow without passing out. He is more difficult than the cow I’m sure she was thinking.
For those keeping score at home:
❌ Fence temp repaired-need supplies
❌ Joyce’s stress level under control (haha) 🤦🏻‍♀️
❌ Moo Baby respecting property lines, for the moment
Meanwhile the pigs still wanted breakfast, the ponies still had opinions, the ducks still ducked, the cats supervised absolutely nothing, and everyone expected room service right on schedule.
The reality of rescue is that sometimes it’s not one giant emergency. It’s a hundred little surprises piling on top of each other until you’re standing in the driveway wondering what fresh nonsense the day has planned.
This week has left us a little short between roof expenses, surprise technology failures, fence destruction, and the normal costs of caring for everyone who calls Happy Hill home.
If everyone who follows our little corner of the world donated just $5 today, it would help keep feed bins full, hay loads and repairs moving forward.

If donating isn’t possible, sharing our posts helps more than you know.
You can share from Happy Hill Farm &Animal Refuge 2.0
Thank you for standing with us through the chaos, the laughter, the heartbreak, the victories, and apparently covert cow-capture missions.
Our lives are definitely not dull or quiet, maybe we could just ask for a little normal.
Trying to find and hang shade sails as summer is here to stay I believe.

Today we need help. 🐷🏠
Yesterday’s $5 Friday brought in just 5 donations.
Today, the roofing crew is on-site working hard to get us into compliance with our homeowners insurance requirements and keep a roof over the heads of both our family and the animals who depend on us.
What started as a roof replacement has already turned into additional expenses we weren’t expecting. We just spent another $600 on materials, and the crew had to make another run to Home Depot this morning for more supplies.
The hard truth is that the $600 I spent today was the money I had set aside for this week’s feed and hay.
I made the decision because the roof had to move forward and there was no time left to wait, but now I’m staring at the reality that the animals still need to eat.
The pigs still need feed.
The ponies still need hay.
The sheep still need care.
The dogs still need food.
And now we’re trying to navigate a major roofing project at the same time.
I know everyone is struggling right now. If you’ve ever thought about helping Happy Hill, today would be a wonderful day to do it.

💛 $5 helps.
💛 $10 helps.
💛 $20 helps.
💛 Sharing this post helps.

If you’ve laughed at Katie’s snack demands, enjoyed our daily “What’s Happening on the Hill” updates, please consider helping us get through this hurdle.

Today I’m standing gate duty while the pigs protest construction, the roofers dodge pig inspectors, and our sanctuary keeps moving forward one step at a time.
Thank you for standing with us through all of it.

🐷💛 $5 FRIDAY 💛🐷

This week has been one for the books.
After months of stress, phone calls, emails, insurance deadlines, and more sleepless nights than I care to count, roofing materials are finally arriving and work is about to begin. It feels good to finally see some forward movement.
Of course, while all of that is happening, the animals still need to eat. Hay still needs to be bought. Feed still needs to be picked up. The sanctuary never pauses just because life gets complicated.
As we head into the weekend, we’re asking our tribe if you would consider joining our $5 Friday.
Just $5 may not seem like much, but when a lot of people come together, it helps keep feed bins full, hay in the barn, hungry pigs, cows, donkeys, chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, and everyone else cared for.
This time of month is always our hardest stretch, and every donation, share, comment, and kind word helps more than you know.
If you’ve ever smiled at Katie’s snack demands, laughed at our rooster shenanigans, followed Pearl’s journey, or enjoyed our daily chaos from the hill, please consider being part of today’s $5 Friday.
From all of us at Happy Hill Farm & Animal Refuge, thank you for standing with us through the mud, the mayhem, and the miracles.

We need more engagement because I don’t think we are being seen. So please like & comment & share. We need to push the algorithm. I’m going to try and post a picture each day with either a question or something light and funny.

What do you think the male hummingbird said to the female rose breasted grosbeak?
Make it funny! The funnier the better because I really could use some lightness and laughter in my world. It doesn’t have to be clean either in Case your wondering if I’d be offended, I won’t!! 🤣🤣🤪

Some weeks just hit harder than others. 💔
This week we said goodbye to Asher, and there are no words for the kind of hole that leaves behind here at Happy Hill. Every single animal who comes through these gates matters deeply to us, and losing one never gets easier no matter how many years we’ve been doing this.
At the same time, real life here keeps moving. The pigs still scream for breakfast, the cows still knock buckets over, hay still disappears at an alarming rate, and feed bills don’t pause for heartbreak.
End of the month is always our hardest stretch financially. Right now we are trying to cover feed, hay, and continue navigating the never-ending roof situation that still has not been resolved. It feels like every time we get one foot forward, something else pulls us back two steps.
But we keep showing up. Because they depend on us to.
If you’d like to help us get through another tough week here at the sanctuary, today is $5 Friday. Even $5 truly helps more than people realize when hundreds of hungry mouths need to eat every single day.
And if you can’t donate, a share, comment, invite to animal-loving friends, or even just sending some encouragement helps push us through too. ❤️
Thank you for continuing to stand beside this messy, muddy, beautiful little refuge on the hill. We couldn’t keep doing this without our tribe.

We are incredibly grateful for every single person who showed up for our little $5 Friday yesterday. 💛 Because of you, we raised $86 for the animals and every dollar truly matters here at Happy Hill.

Today I did a feed run that totaled $740, and tomorrow we have to get hay. Unfortunately, we are completely out of hay funds again already.
Sometimes I think people don’t realize how quickly feed disappears when you are feeding pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and everyone else who calls this sanctuary home. The grocery bill here never sleeps. 🐷🐮🐴🫏🐐
Please know we are SO thankful for every donation, every share, every kind comment and every person cheering us on. We could not keep doing this without our tribe.
If anyone would like to help us get hay in tomorrow, we would be beyond grateful. As always, the animals come first here and we will keep figuring it out one day at a time.
Please like comment and share, engagement brings more views

It’s $5 Friday here at Happy Hill Farm & Animal Refuge

This week has been a little bit of everything… storms, vet, surgeries, hospital trips, muddy boots, sleepless nights, and baby pigs that think thunder means the sky is personally attacking them
But through all of it, the feed buckets still need filled, the hay still disappears at an alarming rate, and the sanctuary keeps rolling because of this amazing tribe behind us.
If just a handful of people sent $5 today, it truly helps more than you know:
🐷 pig feed
🐴 hay
🪿 bedding
🐮 grain
🐑 supplies
…and all the day-to-day things that keep this crazy little refuge running.
If you can’t donate, comments, shares, and inviting animal-loving friends to follow the page helps us tremendously too. Facebook likes to hide farm sanctuary posts unless people interact with them.
As always, thank you for standing behind the misfits, the muddy ones, the broken ones, and the tiny fuzzy potatoes currently taking over my life
We appreciate all of you more than words can say!
