🌻 What’s Happening on the Hill? 🌻
Today started with a mule who has apparently decided that if she puts her head down and refuses to make eye contact, all medical treatments magically disappear.
Miss Mindy is still hanging out in the observation pen. She is eating, drinking, pooping normally, has good gut sounds, and continues her pre-meal rolling routine that keeps me questioning my life choices. When I went in to get her this morning, she immediately dropped her head to the ground because she was convinced I had medicine.
The second she realized we were actually going somewhere, she got up and walked along like she hadn’t just spent five minutes pretending to be a decorative lawn ornament.
🐴 Mule logic.
Meanwhile, Jackson enjoyed a luxury mud spa treatment and spent the afternoon relaxing like a retired millionaire with absolutely no responsibilities. The pigs have once again demonstrated that they have mastered self-care far better than most humans.
🐷 Mud. Sun. Nap. Repeat.
On the home improvement side of things, I successfully repaired one of the garage doors today. This involved a step ladder, metal braces, screws that did not want to cooperate, and my prosthetic foot balanced on top of an air compressor because apparently I enjoy making simple jobs unnecessarily exciting.
Bill attempted to help, which led to one of those moments that hits you right in the heart. The man who used to be able to fix absolutely anything couldn’t quite figure out the braces, even after watching the video. Some days the changes are impossible to ignore.
I may or may not have yelled when he wanted to climb the ladder. In my defense, he wobbles standing on flat ground these days and I really didn’t need a trip to the emergency room added to today’s schedule.
And just when I thought I might get a minute to breathe…
Late last night, like midnight, a family arrived carrying a tiny black kitten.
They had found her near a dumpster where raccoons had been. The other kittens are gone. They saw raccoons around so they are assuming that’s what got the others, Mom hasn’t been seen. This little nugget was the only survivor.
The family posted this baby on our town page and I thought at 1130 at night no one is going to help these poor people or this neonate kitty. The family rolled up at almost 1230 am, and when I say family I mean the whole family. Beside it being late at night, they were so concerned about this baby’s well being. When they saw the welcoming committee at the gate( Woolley and Katie and the gang) they sighed and one said oh I feel so much better now. They knew that baby would get the best care and anything it needed. Annie needed to smell the baby and make sure it’s ok, she loves any babies that come here, and Hudson had to come see the adorable teeny tiny baby and he took it over in the corner and told it a secret, I can’t imagine what that was🤪
So last night, instead of sleep, there is kitten formula, warm blankets, tiny syringes, and a very small black fuzzball named Nugget tucked safely away.
Because apparently the universe heard me thinking I might get a break and immediately said:
“Absolutely not.”
Welcome to Happy Hill, Nugget. 🖤🐾
As always, thank you for following along with our beautiful, exhausting, muddy, heart-filling chaos.
