HCED helped CEDI (Clean Energy Districts of Iowa) spread the energy district idea at the Mitchell County Environmental Expo in June. What do energy districts do? We help assist people in learning about about energy efficiency and renewable energy. CEDI assists and coordinates all of the EDs in Iowa and Wisconsin. Join the movement to clean, efficient energy!

The expo was organized by Citizens Climate Education of Mitchell County and featured a day and a half of interesting speakers (including CEDI's own Andy Johnson) and exhibits, both indoors and out. Congratulations to the Mitchell County folks on a well-organized expo!

Did you miss us at ? We were there to remind people about how much energy efficiency can save in your electric and gas bills? At least $500 per year! Make sure all of your lights are LEDs, and change your furnace filters every 30-60 days (depending on activities, pets, etc.). Ready for more? When your A/C dies, replace it with an air-source heat pump! These chubby-looking A/Cs are 400% efficient and will even save money on your gas bill since they can heat your house during the "shoulder seasons". Ready for more? HCED can get you signed up for a First Step Energy Assessment that is FREE to seniors, low-income, veterans, and disabled.

Thanks to Stan Fosaaen for building our energy efficient and energy wasteful model homes!

DON'T WAIT! If you installed residential solar in 2021 and didn't apply for the Iowa solar tax credit because you heard that it was "dead", you need to act NOW! The Iowa Legislature recently approved funds to "clear the waitlist", i.e., fully fund the credit on eligible installations completed before the end of 2021, but you need to apply BEFORE JUNE 30th!

If you applied and received an denial due to the expiration of the tax credit, the Iowa Department of Revenue says that you do not need to re-apply. However, you should check out the DoR's website to make sure nothing changes. https://tax.iowa.gov/solar-energy-system-tax-credits
