NOTICE OF SPECIAL GRANVILLE COUNTY BOARD
OF ELECTIONS MEETING
The Granville County Board of Elections (the "Board") will hold a special board meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 4:00 pm at the Granville County Convention and Expo Center located at 4185 US Highway 15, Oxford, NC. The Board will convene to consider the following matters:
2026 General Election. The Board's approval of dates and hours at this meeting does not establish or approve any specific Early Voting site.
Reconsideration of Early Voting Plans:
The Board will reconsider the location and number of early voting sites for the November 2026 General Election, as part of the County's Plan for Implementation under N.C.
Gen. Stat. § 163-166.35. Approval of early voting plans requires the unanimous vote of all members of the Board.
The notice means the Granville County Board of Elections is holding a special public meeting to reconsider parts of its previously approved Early Voting Plan for the November 2026 General Election.
What is being reconsidered?
There are two separate issues:
1. Saturday Early Voting Dates and Hours
The Board will vote again on whether to include early voting on:
* Saturday, October 17, 2026
* Saturday, October 24, 2026
If approved, voters would have additional opportunities to cast ballots before Election Day.
2. Early Voting Locations
The Board will also reconsider:
* The number of early voting sites in Granville County.
* The locations of those sites.
The notice emphasizes that approval of the overall early voting plan requires a unanimous vote of all Board members, as required under North Carolina law.
Who could benefit?
Depending on the final decision:
* Voters with weekday work schedules could benefit from Saturday voting because it may be easier to vote on the weekend.
* Senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those with transportation challenges could benefit if early voting sites are located closer to where they live.
* Rural communities may benefit if multiple voting sites are maintained across the county, reducing travel distances.
* Election administrators may be able to better allocate staff and resources if the plan balances voter access with operational needs.
Why is the Board reconsidering the plan?
The notice does not state a reason. Common reasons boards revisit early voting plans include:
* Public comments or feedback.
* Concerns about staffing or funding.
* Requests to change site locations.
* Efforts to improve voter accessibility.
* The need to reach unanimous agreement, since North Carolina law requires unanimous approval of county early voting plans.
What this meeting does not do
This meeting does not decide the election itself or change who is eligible to vote. It is focused on how and where early voting will be conducted in Granville County.
