✨Euphrates Baptist Church in Glascock County was organized c. 1830.

The current church building is a frame church, built of weatherboard in 1873. We believe it was the second church built on this site.

You can read more about it here: https://www.hrcga.org/church/euphrates-baptist/

✨There aren’t many rural churches in Georgia that look like this. Zion Episcopal Church in Talbotton is a rare and unique example of an antebellum, Carpenter Gothic style church that- features beautiful walnut wall boards and distinctive Gothic details.

✨ The story of this church reaches back to the 1790s.

Liberty Hill Church in Lamar County, Georgia was founded before this was even Lamar County, when early settlers gathered here in a simple log meetinghouse called County Line Primitive Baptist. That first church stood on the same spot where Liberty Hill stands today.

By 1865, the congregation renamed itself Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist, part of a larger split among Baptists over whether worship should stay simple or embrace newer traditions.

Though the congregation is no longer Primitive Baptist, they still worship in a sanctuary that carries its 19th-century character and the cemetery beside the church holds Revolutionary War veterans, Civil War soldiers, and generations of early Georgia families.

✨This white-frame church is the original one built by the Methodist congregation at Mauk in 1907. The interior of the sanctuary is unadorned, yet beautiful in its simplicity. We appreciate that the church membership has maintained the church over the decades and because of their commitment to preserving it, stepping inside is like stepping back in time.

Looking at the sanctuary at Culloden Methodist Church, which was built in 1893, we get a great view of the beautifully carved pews and fanciful wood details throughout.

✨This simple sanctuary represents a fascinating chapter of Georgia history tied to the Primitive Baptists who settled across south Georgia. This region is known as the Wiregrass, so these congregations are often referred to as Wiregrass Primitive Baptists.

Their church buildings were intentionally spartan in design, as they believed worship should be free of distractions or ornamentation and this austere philosophy was reflected clearly in their architecture.
