📣 Judge Weighs Case on Maryland’s Closed Primaries

An Anne Arundel County judge ruled that unaffiliated voters do have the right to sue over Maryland’s closed primary system — a small but important win. 🙌

⚖️ Judge Pamela Alban said she’ll issue a written decision soon, but she seemed skeptical that the case could move forward beyond this stage.

💬 The lawsuit, filed by five Maryland voters (represented by former Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford), argues that taxpayer-funded primaries should be open to all voters, not just those registered with a political party.

The state, however, says past court rulings already settled this — and that the right to vote doesn’t necessarily mean the right to vote in party primaries.
