Teacher Appreciation Week is Here! 🌟
May the 4th be with us… because we’re celebrating our incredible team with a Star Wars–themed Teacher Appreciation Week at Lakin CDC! 💫
Our teachers show up every day with care, patience, and heart to support your children—and this is our chance to celebrate them in a meaningful way.
💛 We need your help!
In the front entry (by the staff breakroom), you’ll find our “Yoda Best” bulletin board with envelopes labeled for each teacher. We’re inviting each family to take a moment to fill out a card for your child’s teacher(s) and place it in their envelope.
These notes don’t have to be long—just a few kind words, a favorite memory, or something you appreciate goes a long way. We’ll be sharing these with staff throughout the week as part of our celebration.
✨ How to participate:
Stop by the Yoda board in the front entry
Fill out a “Yoda Best Teacher” card (with your child, if you’d like!)
Place it in your teacher’s labeled envelope
🗓️ Cards will be available through Thursday, so be sure to add yours before then!
Thank you for helping us make our teachers feel seen, valued, and appreciated. 💙

Dandelions remind us that strong roots can help you grow anywhere 🌼🌈
Work Together Wednesday, each classroom worked together to create rainbow collages using reused materials- bringing their own color, creativity, and teamwork to the table. From little hands sticking and sorting to big moments of collaboration, we’re building skills (and roots!) that help our kiddos thrive wherever they go.

Tasty Tuesday got a little emotional 😄🍓
Using sandwich thins, cream cheese, and fruit, we created faces full of personality! Emotions can be tricky, but turning them into something fun (and tasty!) makes them a little easier to understand.

A little late to post… but that’s childcare life for you 😅Last week, we celebrated the Week of the Young Child. A time to recognize the importance of early learning, young children, and the amazing teachers who support them every day
We kicked things off with Music Monday, where the kids had a blast creating their own instruments using bottles! From shaking to tapping, they explored rhythm, creativity, and self-expression in such a fun, hands-on way. Learning through play at its best!
Tuesday is coming up next- and dare we say, it’s going to be downright delicious.

MICAH House and the Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center are excited to partner with Council Bluffs Schools Foundation to help expand access to care for families in our community. 💜

At MICAH House, we are committed to supporting children and families, and this collaboration is a meaningful step toward meeting the unique needs of students and families in Council Bluffs.

We look forward to the positive impact this program will have as it launches in August!

🌺Introducing Bloom🌺

Bloom is a new extension of Kids & Company. This pilot program will offer before- and after-school childcare designed specifically for elementary students who are enrolled in specialized programs within the Council Bluffs Community School District.

This program is made possible through an important partnership with MICAH House and the Florence Lakin Child Development Center. Together, this collaboration will provide the space, expertise, and shared commitment needed to expand childcare options for families who often have limited access to care that meets their child’s needs.

The Bloom pilot program will serve a limited number of students beginning in August 2026.

Families who are interested in learning more are encouraged to complete a brief inquiry form (linked in the comments below) to receive additional information about the program and eligibility.
