Lewis and Clark Young Marines are excited to partner with the Northwest Regiment Young Marines, the Cascade Pacific Council Boy Scouts, Venturing, Varsity and Explorer youth programs for this year's cold weather "living" course. While skills demonstrated this weekend will come in handy in the event our youth ever find themselves sheltering in place during a cold weather experience this is not intended to be a course in cold weather survival. Among other things we anticipate having instructors for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, winter land navigation, fire starting in wet and unfavorable conditions, avalanche awareness and winter first aid including hypothermia and frostbite identification and treatment. If you have working knowledge on any of these topics or other winter safety skills please contact Mr. Hildebrant directly at [email protected] or 360-619-8422.
SAFETY NOTE: All participants must have a functional whistle on them at all times for emergency signaling in the unlikely event of injury, distress or disorientation.

Saturday dinner will be food brought from home. It is appropriate to pack and bring some high protein snacks like granola bars, nuts, etc. also. Plan for that.
Gear list is below. There will be a gear check on Thurs 2/11/16. This is mandatory. Bring ALL your packed gear.
Knives - allowed for NCOs and SNCOs ONLY. Do you have your signed knife policy form turned in? This MUST be signed by your parent and turned in to the Adjutant on or before 2/11/16 in order for NCOs to carry their knives. The knife policy is a National policy and we must follow it.
BSA required age limit - 13 year of age (by 3/31/16).
The gear list is below. Begin taking a look at it. It's a fairly comprehensive gear list and might take some time to gether all the needed supplies. Please don't wait until the last minute to begin to pull these items together. Don't plan on purchasing all this equipment either. Be creative -- borrow from friends/family/neighbors what you don't have.
Each YM will be bringing their own food for Saturday's dinner. It will be whatever grilled meat you bring for yourself (adult staff will be doing the grilling). Please bring enough food for Saturday dinner and several snacks. All the foods need to be packed in by the YM in their packs and any pots/pans you need to cook with. I always sent paper plates/bowls/utensils so they can be disposed of, but all trash does need to be packed out at the end of the week-end.
