The president of the Library Association, Frank E. Pomerene, contacted Andrew Carnegie, to ask if he would be interested in giving Coshocton a library building. After much discussion, the lot on the corner of Chestnut and Fourth Streets was purchased for the project for $2400.00. Carnegie gave $15,000.00 to build the Carnegie Library and gave an additional $2000.00 to furnish it when one of his re

presentatives saw the new building and was extremely pleased. Coshocton’s public library was the one thousandth library funded by Andrew Carnegie. The new Carnegie Library was dedicated on May 5, 1904.
