Is this post late? Yes. Very. But, this year’s Summer Agriculture Institute was such a success! We had 24 enthusiastic teachers join us for the week, and they heard from more than 25 different industry experts. At the end-of-the-week Appreciation Dinner, two comments that stood out were:

"You just let us in to your world, and my huge takeaway was that farming is being in touch with their environment."

"I had the assumption that above a certain size you have to sacrifice the soil, and that could not be further from the truth."

Thank you to all of the teachers who made the week such a wonderful learning experience!

Day #2 included a whole lot of fun tour stops! We started at an Organic Valley dairy farm, then to a hazelnut orchard, a hop farm, and then a winery. Mid-afternoon, each teacher got to go on an overnight stay on a local farm - the highlight of the program!

A huge thank you to all our Day #2 presenters and all of our host farms and families!

We kicked off our week of the 2026 SAI with a hot topic: GMOs! (Yes, we also spent the afternoon outside in the 95-degree sun.)

In addition to GMOs, we learned about land grant universities, plant identification, soil, and grass seed. Thank you to all our presenters, tour hosts, and meal sponsors!

We are well into planning the 2026 Summer Agriculture Institute! This year, SAI will be held June 15-19 in Corvallis. SAI is a three-credit, week-long, graduate-level class through Oregon State University that educates Oregon K-12 teachers who have little or no background in agriculture.

The goal of SAI is to help educators use agriculture as a context for teaching core academic subjects—science, math, social studies, and English. Reach out or check out our website to find out more!
